The Korean film industry is on a roll! Highly anticipated titles such as Citizen of a Kind, Exhuma, Alienoid 2 and more, starring A-list actors audience has come to love over these past years of the rising Hallyu Wave, are releasing at the onset of the new year. Also known as Citizen Deok-hee the Korean mystery drama film based on true events is hitting the cinemas this January, and its star-studded panel of beloved actors has got us hyped too. The leading cast of the movie is a sight for sore eyes, especially since these featured artists have already earned well-deserved applause and fame owing to their numerous K-drama roles in the past.
In addition to the cast being such a remarkable group of talented performing artists, the film’s premise itself and the characters’ interactions, as seen in the trailers released so far, are noteworthy elements that are attracting international viewers’ eyeballs. Although OTT premiere date and international cinema release dates haven’t been announced as of yet, its local theatrical premiere is a cause enough for celebration. Centred around voice phishing scams, the K-movie (시민 덕희) will portray the rise of ordinary citizens against these deceitful cons. Read all about the action comedy flick below.
Citizen of a Kind Korean Movie Plot
Based on a real-life incident from 2016, wherein a housemaker became a victim to a voice phishing scam, the forthcoming movie will centre around an ordinary woman, Deok-hee, who ends up losing a huge sum of hard-earned money within seconds over a call that had initially sought to help her out with a loan after her laundry store burned down in a fire.
When she thinks all hope is lost, Jae-min, the same man who’d tricked her turns to her aid as a whistle-blower agains the criminal setup. He, too, on the other side of the call was being held captive in China and forced to scam people like so over the calls. On hearing this, Deok-hee, with the help of her friends, flies to China and takes matters into her hands to bring herself and supposedly others victims of the group to justice.

Citizen of a Kind Movie Cast
Distributed by Showbox, the film has been directed by Park Young-ju. The Good Bad Mother’s Ra Mi-ran will be leading the lot in her titular role as Deok-hee, whereas Gong Myung as Jae-min will join forces with her as her secret informant despite originally being in the same voice phishing group that scammed her. Alongside them, Yeom Hye-ran of Mask Girl, Ahn Eun-jin from My Dearest, Jang Yoon-ju (also seen in Ballerina movie) and Park Byung-eun (seen in The Moon movie, and guest-starred in K-dramas Destined With You and Moving) will also be helming important roles as part of the main cast.
