Apple TV+ has dropped its Sci-Fi anthology Circuit Breakers on Friday. The 7 episodes series is a futuristic science drama that shows the lives of middle school students from Newton Middle School. The show is 10 years ahead and documents how students conduct experiments with science that often meddle with their personal lives.
Circuit Breakers Plot
Being an anthology, Circuit Breakers has 7 different narratives in its 7 episodes. Each episode focuses on a different episode and a different problem that arises due to the misuse of technology by these children.
The series has many sub-plots, but all of these incidents are happening in the same Newton Middle School. The school seems to have an advanced technological system, and as the name suggests, it focuses mostly on its Scientific experiments.
Circuit Breakers Episodes
Episode 1 (Test Subject 13): Jacob, a desperate 8th grader, enrols himself in a medical trial with an unknown company. As part of the experiment, ‘medibots’ are injected inside his body which helps him grow tall. Soon his body is infected with robots, and the medical company refuses to help.
Episode 2 (Copycat): Jesse, a passionate dancer, wants to be accepted into the Dance Team. His dance practice is meddling with his homework, so Jesse’s parents decide to get him an assistant/helper. With the help of his friend Cara, Jesse creates a helper who looks just like him to help him with chores. Jesse’s troubles are accounted for in this episode which has a mysterious ending.

Episode 3 (Picture Perfect): Emily is struggling with her parents’ separation. When her consultant takes her to memory therapy with her parents, Emily decides to use the tool to reconcile her parents. Things, however, take a sudden and drastic turn for the worst.
Episode 4 (Entangled): This is the funniest and the most emotional episode of the series. Seth, a young and passionate drummer, ends up exchanging his mind with Principal Young. Being in charge of the school, Seth has some funny moments in the show. Principal Young attends classes as Seth helps him to see his students’ problems outside the school.
Episode 5 (Permanent Detention): The episode begins with 2 girl students receiving detention. As a punishment, they are taken to the oldest part of the school. A mysterious character appears and disrupts the school system, freezing everybody but the girls. What are the fates of the girls?
Episode 6 (Parental Control): Cassady and Jack hate being under parental control and buy themselves a universal remote to get out of the situation. Instead of turning off the parental controls system, the remote turned off their parents’ sense of parental control.
While the kids enjoy this new-found freedom for a while, things start to get out of hand soon enough!

Episode 7 (No Place Like Home): Cricket and her moms are living in a self-sustaining lifeboat on Mars. Their mission is to save the planet by completely cutting off its carbon emission.
The episode had a strong message to stop global warming and save the planet before the situation gets out of hand. But, it was a confusing episode with the family finally finding out some shocking truths.

Circuit Breakers Review
As stated earlier, Circuit Breakers is an anthology. Therefore, it is obvious it has multiple narratives. But, it would have been better if the makers had given a proper conclusion to the episodes.
The first 3 episodes of the show ended on cliffhangers, and we have no idea if there is going to be a follow-up episode which will give us the much-desired ending.

For me, it had a loud and clear message: Science will destroy humanity if we continue to misuse it, exhaust our resources and exploit the planet. But, even with the strong message that this show was trying to deliver, it had to be more intense and more detailed in its narration.
Incomplete stories are the biggest turndowns.
Maybe the makers are trying to create suspense amongst the audience, but the execution doesn’t land. We have so many doubts and so many questions and no idea when the next season is coming.
Despite that, if you are someone who enjoys sci-fi series, you will love this show as it has some really cool concepts and ideas. Cara’s mannequin was one of the coolest experiments of the show, and we’d love to have one for ourselves.
With middle school struggles, a child’s curious mind and a tech-driven world, Circuit Breakers is a jackpot for our middle-school audience.
