Park Chan-wook’s upcoming thriller-comedy film Can’t Help It (literal title) has generated significant buzz with the confirmation of an all-star cast. CJ ENM revealed on August 12 that the film will feature prominent actors Lee Byung-hun, Son Ye-jin, Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min, Yeom Hye-ran, Cha Seung-won, and Yoo Yeon-seok.
The film marks another collaboration with director Park Chan-wook, known for his critically acclaimed works such as The Handmaiden and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. Can’t Help It (어쩔수가없다) is a remake of the French-Spanish-Belgian film The Axe, which was itself adapted from the novel The Ax by Donald E. Westlake. The story centres on an office worker who loses his job and, in desperation, embarks on a perilous journey to find new employment to support his family.
Lee Byung-hun takes on the role of Man-soo, a man who faces the grim reality of being dismissed from his job after 25 years. His portrayal of a character driven to the brink of despair and madness promises to be a highlight of the film. Son Ye-jin will play Mi-ri, Man-soo’s supportive wife, who becomes the backbone of the family during his unemployment. Her character is described as bright and resilient, showcasing her versatility as an actress.

Park Hee-soon will portray Choi Seon-chul, a foreman at a paper company, while Lee Sung-min is cast as Koo Beom-mo, a seasoned worker in the paper industry who finds himself jobless. Yeom Hye-ran will take on the role of Beom-mo’s wife, adding depth to the film’s exploration of family dynamics under pressure. Cha Seung-won will star as Go Si-jo, a fierce competitor to Man-soo, intensifying the film’s tension. Yoo Yeon-seok will round out the cast as Oh Jin-ho, a dentist at the clinic where Mi-ri works.
Filming for Can’t Help It Korean movie is scheduled to begin on August 17, with anticipation building among fans of the director and the star-studded cast. The film is expected to blend suspense and dark humour, creating a unique cinematic experience that resonates with both local and international audiences.
