BOYNEXTDOOR Boom Boom Boom MV Review: A Little Chaotic, Very Charming and Completely BOYNEXTDOOR

BOYNEXTDOOR Boom Boom Boom MV Review: There is something about BOYNEXTDOOR which is oddly addictive, making every situation worth the watch. They have never really been the group that needs to look very polished or intimidatingly professional to make an impression. They get a catchy beat, mix it with a ridiculous amount of energy and six boys who look like they are genuinely having the time of their lives; somehow it works. Boom Boom Boom is basically that formula turned all the way up.

Released on August 18 as BOYNEXTDOOR’s second Japanese digital single, Boom Boom Boom is an original Japanese track that leans into an upbeat, energetic sound with a hook that is almost impossible to ignore. This is not a song that wants you to sit down and analyse every second of it. It wants you to press play and groove with it for 20 minutes straight without even realising.

The first thing that immediately stands out about Boom Boom Boom is how comfortable BOYNEXTDOOR look inside this kind of chaos. The boy group has built an identity around youthful energy, goofy confidence and a feeling that you are watching the boys who are actually enjoying themselves rather than performing. That energy and quality seem present throughout the music videos.

Boom Boom Boom feels like another extension of that personality but with a distinct pop flavour added.

The song is pretty straightforward. There is a bounce to it, and the repeated hook does exactly what a good pop hook does: gets stuck in your brain and keeps playing while you are doing your chores. The upbeat production keeps everything moving, while the vocals give the track enough character and shape to stop it from becoming just another aggressively cheerful pop song.

The music video steals the heart with the colours and energy. It is colourful, energetic and very aware of the fact that BOYNEXTDOOR are at their best when they are allowed to enjoy themselves. There is a looseness to the way members perform which makes the MV feel less like a perfectly constructed pop music showcase and more like being dropped into the middle of their little world.

That is probably what I liked the most about it. There are plenty of groups that can execute a choreography perfectly. BOYNEXTDOOR, however, have this ability to make the choreography feel like an extension of their personalities. There is a sense of playfulness even behind the sharp movements.

The Song Is A Sugar Rush

BOYNEXTDOOR Boom Boom Boom has absolutely no interest in letting you have a quiet, silent day. It is not letting you have that.

The repeated phrase, the fast-moving beat and the brightness of the track make it feel like a sugar rush but wrapped into a song. It is not complicated, and sometimes pop music’s beauty is in not being an exploration of the human condition; it is just something that makes your metro ride slightly more fun. Boom Boom Boom understands that assignment well and delivers.

There is also something particularly fitting about BOYNEXTDOOR releasing an original Japanese track that sounds this lively while they are in the middle of their KNOCK ON Vol. 2 world tour.

BOYNEXTDOOR Know Their Charm

Boom Boom Boom does not feel like BOYNEXTDOOR is trying to prove something, and that matters. Since their debut, the group has carved an identity that feels rooted in everyday youth rather than unattainable perfection. Even the more polished releases of BOYNEXTDOOR do not ignore their slightly chaotic energy, which makes the group easy to watch and relate to.

Boom Boom Boom understands that identity without reinventing it, and sometimes knowing exactly what works for you is more valuable than constantly trying something completely different. The music video also benefits from the fact that six members have distinct personalities: Jaehyun, Sungho, Riwoo, Taesan, Leehan, Woonhak; each bringing a different element to the performance which in no way feels disconnected.

Their togetherness remains one of the biggest reasons the concepts work so well. You can very well tell that they are all having fun, and when performers look like they are having fun, viewers usually end up having fun too.

Final Verdict

BOYNEXTDOOR Boom Boom Boom is not trying to be their most emotional song or their artistic reinvention. It is simply a ridiculously catchy, energetic track which understands that the group’s strength is in making young and chaotic look fun.

The addictive hook and the lively production make it an easy addition to the playlist. The MV gives the members a lot of space to be charming, chaotic and fun. I somehow like it because sometimes the best music videos are not the ones that leave you sitting there thinking about the symbolism for three business days; sometimes they are the ones that immediately enter your brain and refuse to leave before you realise that you are humming Boom Boom Boom while doing your chores.
