Blue Lock Season 2 Overview
Blue Lock is a manga series created by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura. It was first serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in August 2018, and as of August 24, the series has been collected into 30 tankōbon volumes.
The manga became so popular that it led to the production of an anime adaptation by Eight Bit. Following the first season, an anime film adaptation based on the Episode Nagi manga also premiered in theatres in April 2024.

Additionally, a second season of the anime was announced after the conclusion of the first. This new season, titled *vs. U-20 Japan*, began airing in October 2024 on TV Asahi’s newly launched IMAnimation block and is scheduled to run for 14 episodes. The opening theme song for this season, “Bōjaku no Charisma,” is performed by Unison Square Garden, while the ending theme, “One,” is sung by Snow Man, adding an extra layer of excitement to the ongoing saga.
Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 1 Review

One of the best sports anime ever has finally released its much-awaited second season, and it is just as good as we remember it to be. We pick up from the part where the Blue Lock players are now going to face the Under-20 Japan team, who are definitely one of the strongest in the country. To face them, you will have to be the best in Blue Lock and at the current level, the players must work harder to reach that goal. However, as only strikers are present among the 35 remaining players, some of them will have to choose different positions and even defend against one of the best teams.
This is why Ego comes up with a way to utilise the players to their maximum capabilities and give them one chance to prove their worth. The top six players at the moment will be divided into three groups. After that, the rest of the players will be given the chance to select any one of these three groups so that they can play a 1 versus 1 match.

The instructions from Ego are clear. Now that they know where everyone stands, they must coexist and dominate the top six players with whom they will be teaming and playing against. If they cannot shift the spotlight from the top six players to themselves, then they do not deserve to be in Blue Lock anymore. Ego also instructs the top six players how they must not at any moment give way for anyone else to stand in their path. They are the cream of the crop, and they should have the hunger within them to crush anyone who tries to take their place.
This clearly sets the stage for an absolute massacre at the end of which only a few will stand who will get closer to becoming the best in Japan. Isagi is torn with his options as he does not know which team he should choose where he will be able to assist optimally and dominate the game with his own ability. However, problems are brewing from all sides as some of the officials who work for the Japan team do not want outsiders from Blue Lock to win. Thus, we are really up for a wild ride.

Verdict
I absolutely loved the intensity and excitement that Blue Lock delivers every time. This season is going to be more entertaining as we will witness many fast-paced games and new rivals. I love the fact that this anime makes football so much more accessible for audiences who might not have any knowledge about the game.
