Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 7 Overview

What is there to be said about Bleach that hasn’t been said before? It is one of the most popular anime in the west of Japan of all time and is considered a part of the Big Three, a trio of anime widely recognised as having been a part of popularising the medium of anime. The show is back after a hiatus of nine years, as its first run ended in 2013. The newest season of the show is being developed by Studio Pierrot, the studio behind the original series, as well as other giants such as Naruto and Tokyo Ghoul.
The final arc of Bleach is directed by Tomohisa Taguchi, who has been involved in the productions of Persona 4 The Animation and Twin Star Exorcists, and the series is based on a manga written by Tite Kubo. This episode is also referred to in original Japanese as Bleach Sennen Kessen-hen Episode 7 (Bleach Sennen Kessen hen Episode 7) and Bleach TYBW Episode 7. Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 7 Review- Born In The Dark

There is a reason why anime made for teenage boys as the primary demographic, or shonen anime as it is typically referred to, is the highest-grossing and most popular demographic and type of anime. It comprises the easiest to like and appreciate storylines and characters, which are also coincidentally very easy to digest. It is very easy to get bored of these shows because they tend to follow a pattern, but being easy to digest also made shounen anime almost always the shows people first watch when starting anime. They are popular because of a reason, it being that they work and are some of the most exciting pieces of content you’ll ever watch.

Still, there are good shonen shows and bad shonen shows like every other demographic and kind of media. Consistency has never been one of Bleach’s strong suits, and you could always argue it belongs to either end of the shonen anime spectrum. It had its good arcs, bad ones, and its fair share of fillers nobody cared about. However, that was then, and this is now, and Bleach managed to release one of the greatest episodes in shonen history in an arc that is sure to be remembered now as one of, if not the show’s best.

Seriously, this was easily the best thing to come out of this season so far, and it is hard to see anything topping it. There was so much to love here- Yama’s past and present being represented, the display of the original thirteen Court Guard Squads or Gotei 13, Ichigo’s appearance on the battleground and the immediate shift in tone and temperature throughout the world, and a fantastic and memorable fight between the forces of good and evil as they exist in this world. Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 7 was as close to art as the show’s ever been.

It is hard to talk about specifics without spoiling the episode’s entire plot, so I’ll be as vague as possible here. Do you remember the most memorable panel in the manga’s history, with Ichigo at the centre being asked to do something? Yes, that one. We finally saw it being animated, which was as glorious as we had always imagined. Not just that, but there were different animation styles used in this episode during different segments that gave it a more varied and serene look than the series had previously displayed. The music was epic, the stage set, and the characters were ready for the showdown of a millennium. The show did not disappoint.

Now, one could argue endlessly about the merits of the kind of story being told here or the quality of Bleach’s writing as a whole, but it was impossible to deny how cool and memorable this episode was. Yes, it didn’t provide straight answers to anything, and something that the show didn’t previously establish came in clutch for the good side. So what? I don’t care. This was as intense and thrilling as anything you will ever see. That is all Bleach as a series ever needs to be.
Verdict
Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 7 was peak shounen. It was one of the greatest episodes of the show and the subcategory of the shonen genre as a whole. Yet, somehow, it still feels like the show is just getting started.
