The Quincies have arrived and set the stage- a war in five days. Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 2 sees the Soul Reapers start their response to the threat. Let’s see how it went in this review!
Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 2 Overview

What is there to be said about Bleach that hasn’t been said before? It is one of the most popular anime in the west of Japan of all time and is considered a part of the Big Three, a trio of anime widely recognised as having been a part of popularising the medium of anime. The show is back after a hiatus of nine years, as its first run ended in 2013. The newest season of the show is being developed by Studio Pierrot, the studio behind the original series, as well as other giants such as Naruto and Tokyo Ghoul.
The final arc of Bleach is directed by Tomohisa Taguchi, who has been involved in the productions of Persona 4 The Animation and Twin Star Exorcists, and the series is based on a manga written by Tite Kubo. This episode is also referred to in original Japanese as Bleach Sennen Kessen-hen Episode 2 (Bleach Sennen Kessen hen Episode 2) and Bleach TYBW Episode 2. Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 2 Review- Battle Lines

Fear is a big theme in this arc of the show, and the new enemies personify it like no other. If you thought Ichigo almost dying against Ulquiorra was scary, or Byakuya being fast enough to avoid being seen by the naked eye was scary, you are in for an awakening of a lifetime. The Quincies came out of absolutely nowhere and did not give Soul Reapers any time to prepare for the attack. That would have been scary as is, but they are also horrifyingly strong and being led by the most vicious of them all-the Quincy King.

Now, I know his name, and I’m sure most of you do too. However, I’m not going to spoil it for anyone who doesn’t know, so rest easy. His extraordinarily cruel demeanour said all about him in this episode, and a hundred times better than I would have been able to in this series. He is dangerous because he is an enemy we don’t know. We knew Aizen and how strong he was, and Ginjo was never that strong, to begin with. The King, however, has operated in the dark for almost a millennia now and, as such, is stronger than anyone could wildly imagine.

The show then found the perfect way to show exactly how strong and cruel he is while going back to one of the most iconic locations in all of anime- Hueco Mundo. The connection between Quincies and Hueco Mundo makes almost too much sense, and so does Ichigo’s response to hearing what is going on there. Ichigo was literally born to protect, and our boy can’t let innocent people die, even if they all wanted his head on a platter three years ago.

This episode also demonstrated Bleach’s core strength- character writing. Even though you last saw them more than a decade ago, just one look at Tres Bestias made you remember how hard they were to overcome and how they were going to be a problem to whoever stepped in their way. That supposedly unfortunate person was Quilge Opie, Quincy extraordinaire and a phenomenal personality to introduce the concept of Sternritter’s to the story. He is very over-the-top dramatic and just as cruel, so he makes for a very fun watch.

Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 2 looked great and was the quality one could reasonably expect the entire season would stick to. The soundtrack of the show has always been great, but the Quincy Theme that was first featured in the trailer and carried on over to this episode was tremendous. Overall, I love the vibe of this season simply because they are fantastic. Every frame of this show screams hard work and patience, and Pierrot is out to prove something with Bleach. Let’s hope they are successful!
Verdict
Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 2 was extremely fun and told a great story, one that brought back a lot of characters from the past. Expect a lot more of that in the future!
