Black Panther Wakanda Forever Mid Credits Scene Explained
Before the final showdown between the two nations – Wakanda and Talokan – Nakia assured Shuri that she has a place with her in Haiti whenever she wants to stretch her legs out and take it easy. The mid-credits scene then takes us to the said location as Shuri visits Nakia, and it seems that they’re preparing for something.
During the initial half of the sequel, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Princess Shuri’s mother, speaks about moving on to a new chapter in one’s life and a healthy means of processing one’s grief for a loved one. While she burnt her ceremonial garments worn during T’Challa’s funeral, Shuri wasn’t quite ready to settle for acceptance and was still very much going through the initial stages of handling grief – anger.
Nevertheless, Queen Ramonda’s words stuck with her till the end, and even though Shuri isn’t always the one to acquiesce to customs and traditions, once she’s finally made peace with the deaths in her family at the end of the movie, she gives it a try too. Sitting on the shore of a beach, where Naki had already made preparation for the event, Shuri walks in. Asking for a moment alone, she leaves Nakia for the time and places her funeral garments into the pyre, thus accepting the tragic passing away of both her brother – King T’Challa and her mother – Queen Ramonda.
She closes her eyes, and visions of her brother, who used to be her rock, come flooding back for the first time in a long time. It’s like Queen Ramonda had said earlier; even though he wasn’t among them anymore, it didn’t have to mean that he was gone. She had faith and was often comforted by T’Challa’s image in her mind, but Shuri wasn’t ready to let those emotions run their course then. However, once she’s finally found peace, all her negative feelings find a consoling support in all the memories she’d shared with him.

Once done, Nakia comes back to accompany her, but she doesn’t come alone. Bringing a young boy along with her, she introduces him as her son, Toussaint, to Shuri. Nakia, too voices why she didn’t come back for T’Challas’s funeral, as both she and T’Challa had decided that it wasn’t time yet for her son to face the “pressures of the throne”. She also tells Shuri that while the people of Wakanda saw T’Challa as a King and ‘protector’, for her, he was “everything”.
Even Queen Ramonda had met Toussaint some time ago; Shuri was the only one who didn’t know. Toussaint turns to her, and they exchange a lighthearted and soft interaction during which the boy reveals that Toussaint is but his Haitian name, while his Wakandan name stands strong as Prince T’Challa, just like his father.

So, what we have here is that the MCU and Ryan Coogler have taken the creative liberty of designing a new character altogether, one that’s unique to the MCU. The Marvel comics do present T’Challa’s son, but no one by the name of Toussaint was ever featured therein.
This presents an opportunity for the MCU to develop all of T’Challa’s stories with his son as their focus instead since they share the same name. Toussaint’s future has no formal textual source to fall back on otherwise. Therefore, his future is still quite hazy, but we can’t give up on the possibility of him becoming one of the future heirs to the Black Panther title, at least not yet. Will he be king? We don’t know, but now that Shuri has successfully synthesized the artificial heart-shaped herb, it leaves enough room for more Black Panthers to assume power in the future.
Is There a Black Panther Wakanda Forever Post Credits Scene?
After a solemn tribute and remembrance paid to the actor Chadwick Boseman, in whose name Coogler has even dedicated this movie, it didn’t seem fitting to add any post-credits scene thereafter as comic relief or even for any other purpose.
There’s no particular reason for the audience to sit in the theatres past the rolling of mid-credits, but there’s a message tag at the final end. A hopeful message harking the return of the Black Panther in the near future is left behind, much like the ending of Avengers: Endgame, so that the viewer can sit and grasp at what has been lost and accept the emotional baggage the movie comes with rather than be distracted and swayed by something else the next minute.
Black Panther Wakanda Forever is now out in theatres. The 2018 origins story of the titular character is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
