Black Bird Episode 4 Recap Contains Spoilers
Black Bird Episode 4 starts with flashbacks of Larry Hall and Jimmy Keene’s childhood flashbacks with their father. Larry’s father was strict with him, and Jimmy’s father treated him with love. After the flashback, in prison, Jimmy enters Larry’s cell in his absence. Jimmy goes through Larry’s dirty magazines and graphic sketches. He finds no clues.
Later, the cop blackmails Jimmy again. When Larry returns to his cell, he asks Jimmy if anyone is inside his cell. Jimmy asks Larry if something’s missing. Larry says why would he think that and asks Jimmy why he asks so many questions. Jimmy doesn’t understand what Larry is trying to implicate and walks away. Larry follows Jimmy.
Larry tells Jimmy that something is going to happen. It’s very quiet in prison. Larry apologises to Jimmy for his behaviour earlier and says he gets paranoid. But Jimmy doesn’t accept his apology and walks away. Suddenly, the prisoners start attacking each other and even the officers in the prison canteen. Some angry prisoners destroy the chairs and TV and kill some men.
Jimmy and Larry, among a few other prisoners, are safe from the violent attacks. The officers announce a lockdown. The next morning, Larry asks Jimmy if he’s still mad at him. Jimmy says that he was never mad at him. Larry asks Jimmy if they can be friends again. Jimmy agrees. Larry laughs and says, “I take care of my friends.”

When he asks Jimmy if he agrees, Jimmy says he always had his dad. In another flashback of Black Bird Episode 4, a young Jimmy sits alone while his parents fight because his dad is always working. Larry says something strange yet again. He says that if he had a pet chicken or a pet dog, he would eat it. Jimmy asks if he has eaten his dog. Larry says that he wasn’t allowed to keep a dog.
Larry Hall reveals he digs up graves and coffins to take the belongings people to keep with these dead people, like gold, money or anything expensive. Hall talks about a girl named Debra Kayle and says she is untouchable. Larry says how they all thought she was going to rule the world. But she jumped from the roof when she went off to college. Larry says how death events out everything.
In a flashback scene, Larry’s father gives him a knife to cut off a finger of a dead old man inside the grave to take out his ring. Later during lunch, Larry Hall asks Jimmy Keene what his parents did for work. Jimmy says that he worked as a fireman. Jimmy tells Larry that his mom worked at a bar. His parents fought a lot.
Larry Hall tells Jimmy Keenes to tell something true about his life. Jimmy says that when he was a kid, his parents broke up. Six months later, his mother let someone named Glen move in. They were together for a year, and Glen started hitting his mom and him. Jimmy says his mother didn’t leave Glen as she wanted him to protect her.

At a young age, Jimmy started taking Taekwondo and Karate classes. But he was still 14, and Glen was a big man. Jimmy narrates an incident when Glen hit him very hard and gave him a nosebleed and fractured ribs. Larry asks where was his mother during this time. “She was taking a shower,” says Jimmy. Larry says she was taking a shower to smell good when she slept with Glen. Larry tells his mother loved Glen more than him.
Later, Jimmy tells Larry how he wanted to kill his mom sometimes. He asks Jimmy how he would do that. “Chuck her down the stairs”, says Jimmy. Larry again says something noteworthy. He says, “What if she hung on for a few minutes after? They do that. Particularly with neck brakes.”
Larry tells Jimmy that he soaks a rag in the starter fluid, and it is in a mason jar in his van. If one puts it over a person’s face, they are out in a second. He says it’s more pleasant than being thrown down the stairs. Jimmy asks why he would do that. Larry says he does it so the girls he meets stop hitting him.
At the end of the episode, Larry’s brother comes to meet him. Larry asks him the name of the girl they picked up during a road trip. They picked up the girl, and she left with her boyfriend on a bike in the morning. Garry tells Larry that the cops dropped by his house. Suddenly, Larry remembers that the girl’s name was Sharon.
