Well, I must admit the new Netflix spin-off did take me by surprise and here is the Bird Box Barcelona Ending Explained. The film stars Mario Casas, Alejandra Howard, Georgina Campbell, Michelle Jenner, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Naila Schuberth, Naila Schuberth, and Patrick Criado. It has been written and directed by Alex Pastor and David Pastor. It is a spin-off of the 2018 Netflix movie Bird Box that stars Sandra Bullock.
Despite dealing with an Earth-scale event, the movie manages to be deeply personal on multiple levels. It draws from hope, faith, love and truth. But it doesn’t pull away from the destruction that the entities in question have brought about across Barcelona and, clearly, Earth. In this article, we will be discussing the ending and what it meant.

Bird Box Barcelona Synopsis
Sebastian is on a noble path to save the souls of the people in Barcelona. He is being led by his dead daughter Anna (her soul), who is helping him understand how he is God’s shepherd. But what he doesn’t know is that it is the alien beings that are manipulating him to assist them in their task, i.e. killing all humans.
The catch is that whoever sees these entities with their eyes, kills himself/herself/themselves. And there are some people who seem to have accepted these entities as a sign from God and are doing the same job as Sebastian. However, things start to change when Sebastian meets young Sophia, who brings about a change in him, and he realizes what he has been doing. He ultimately sacrifices himself to get Sophia and Claire, the woman who is with her, to safety.
Bird Box Barcelona Ending Explained
What are the Seers?
I hope I don’t see the seers. They are apparently some kind of quantum beings that take on the shape of whatever a particular person is affected by the most. So for some, it becomes aliens; for some, it is monsters; for some, it is the devil; and for some, it is God. For Sebastian, it is his daughter Anna. The beings, whose motive we do not find out but can guess that they are up for the eradication of Earth’s species, are using Sebastian, the Father and his gang, to manipulate people.

Needless to say, once they have served their purpose, they, too, will be killed. The Father and his gang, who are naturally most affected by God, are under the impression that they are serving His purpose. But they are not. And neither is Sebastian any shepherd who is guiding the sheep (the people) to God’s green pastures. In this way, Bird Box Barcelona plays on the themes of faith that can be harmful when blind.

Is Anna Real?
No, Anna is dead. Sebastian is seeing her because the entities know that she is the one he is the most affected by. Realising that he can be manipulated through her, the sentient entities use Anna’s apparition to find more people and kill them. But when Sebastian meets Sophia, the illusion breaks. His love for his daughter takes the shape of his love for Sophia, and that’s when we see Anna’s apparition bleeding. This basically means that Sebastian is rejecting the effect of the entities, but this doesn’t bar him from seeing them. But we all know that it is only a matter of time before he is dead too.
Does Sebastian Save Claire and Sophia?
Yes. He does. At the end of Bird Box Barcelona, he kills the Father and sacrifices himself in trying to save Sophia and Claire by giving them enough time to escape to the church in Montjuïc, where they will be safe. Interestingly, the ending of the movie is a potential cliffhanger because we see how experts at Montjuïc are trying to find a cure for the effects that the seers have on different species.

They are using mice, birds and other animals as test subjects. This gives me pure I am Legend vibes. In fact, Sebastian’s sacrifice is just like the sacrifice of Dr. Robert who too, gave his life in trying to protect Anna and Ethan. My question is, how did they manage to trap a seer? Maybe the third movie, if and when it arrives, will answer this question.
Bird Box Barcelona is now available on Netflix.
