Between Father and Son Ending Explained: Netflix’s Between Father and Son is a psychological and thrilling watch that showcases the consequences of obsession through its bite-sized episodes. Packed with desire and secrets, the series follows a woman’s journey to find the truth after a trip to her fiancé’s home turns deadly. The series packs twists and turns in every episode, although with such a short runtime, things do get a bit repetitive sometimes.

What are the secrets that Alvaro’s family is hiding?

Throughout the runtime, Barbara is seen running around trying to figure out what happened to Alvaro’s late wife Fernanda, who disappeared after deciding to divorce Alvaro. Immediately suspicious, Barbara just can’t let it go, especially when everyone seems to look guilty whenever Fernanda’s name is brought up. In the end, Barbara, on her way to meet “Fernanda”, is kidnapped out of the blue by none other than Gaby, who, under Margarita’s toxic control, has been keeping Fernanda captive at their old family estate.

As it turns out, Fernanda had figured out that Margarita had killed her husband after she discovered him having an affair and had instructed Gaby to do the dirty work and get rid of Fernanda, fearing that the truth would come out. Clearly, Gaby wasn’t interested in doing this, as Fernanda had become her friend, just like Barbara. However, she isn’t able to push back against her mother’s control and ends up holding the poor woman captive.

What happens in the final scene?

At the estate, an irate Gaby, confused about her conflicting feelings, accidentally shoots both Fernanda and Alvaro. We almost believe that both might have succumbed to their injuries, but one year later, we see Fernanda alive and reconnecting with Leo, who is finally venturing out into the world and leaving the restrictive life and choosing growth and freedom. In a shocking twist, it is Alvardo who has died, but despite the sadness, it seems like everyone is content with their lives. Meanwhile, we see Gaby and Margarita being taken away in handcuffs for the crimes that they have committed against those they love the most.

Why does Iker become obsessed with Barbara?

Iker wasn’t obsessed per se; his connection with Barbara was immediate after they accidentally met at his barn. He was smitten by her, and the attraction only grew from then on out. Thankfully for him, Barbara, too, shared the same feelings and was unable to let go of her feelings. As the two struggled, they invariably grew closer to one another, unfortunately being unfaithful to both Luna and Alvaro as a result.

Who does Barbara choose? Iker or Alvaro?

In the end, Barbara chooses Iker as the two are much more compatible and share similar interests and passions. She mentions that she doesn’t regret any of her decisions till then and is happy with where life has taken her.

The ending reflects the series’ central themes

The ending is a reminder that emotional dependence, loneliness and the lasting effects of toxic family relationships can destroy people’s lives. The series is less about romance and more about uncovering a mystery and healing from old wounds, and the ending reflects how the characters can overcome their unresolved pain and move on with their lives instead of being trapped in the same cycle.
