Believer 2 on Netflix: Han Hyo-joo’s Character Revealed, Release Date, Returning Cast and More

Has Han Hyo-joo’s (of Moving fame) involvement with Believer 2 on Netflix (독전 2) grabbed your attention lately, and got you wondering what her role is all about in this upcoming South Korean crime action film? Well, then, following a wait of 5 long years, it’s about time that we initiate a conversation centred around the 2023 South Korean flick, which is a sequel to the 2018 theatrical premiere of the suspense-worthy Believer movie directed by Lee Hae-young.

Unlike the former instalment, the soon-to-release movie on Netflix has been directed by Baek Jong-yul, also known as Baik, who made his feature film debut with The Beauty Inside (2015), marking his first collaboration with actor Han Hyo-joo. Joining him again for this gritty K-movie, this time, the Moving actor has taken on a sinister role that will give you the heebie-jeebies and leave you in cold sweat, fearing her new avatar in contrast to her last portrayal of Lee Mi-hyun in the Disney+ K-drama, wherein she stepped up as a loving superhero mom, quite literally.

Believer 2’s screenplay has been handled by Kim Hee-jin, with Lim Seung-young producing it along with production companies CJ ENM Studio. K-content has been doing fairly well on Netflix, and has been able to garner even more significant number of followers, especially with a new project being announced every now and then. After the successful run of Korean drama series like Doona and Daily Dose of Sunshine, and releasing the K-pop docu-series Person: Sulli, the Believer sequel is yet another highly anticipated event that we can’t for either. Here’s what we know about the upcoming movie so far.

Believer 2 Korean Movie Cast

Following the incidents of the first movie (Korean remake of Johnnie To’s Drug War), lead actors, Cho Jin-woong as Jo Won-ho, a detective , and Cha Seung-won as Brian, a company director with a secret to hide, are reprising their respective roles for the sequel. Lee Joo-young is also coming back to play her role of Rona, a deaf and mute drug maker, who works alongside her brother Dong-yeon, played by Kim Dong-young.

In addition to the old cast members, the second instalment has also welcomed Han Hyo-joo to portray yet another one of the lead roles. She steps into the shoes of Keunkal “Big Knife”, and is deemed a significant player handling the affairs of Mr Lee’s organisation. Joining her, Oh Seung-hoon will be seen replacing Ryu Jun-yeol as Rak.

Believer 2 on Netflix: Plot / Synopsis

In the first movie, Won-ho was introduced as a police detective pursuing every connection possible to get his hands on the man running Asia’s biggest drug cartel – Mr Lee. The man is almost presented like a ghost with no threads actually leading up to him. Eventually, getting in touch with a man named Rak, a former acquaintance of Mr Lee’s, Won-ho teams up with him to catch his boss for once and for all.

Believer ended with Seung-won’s Brian seemingly dead, and the second movie will follow Won-ho looking for Rak. With many people claiming the identity of Mr Lee, Won-ho had even convinced himself that Rak was the man he was after. However with him missing in the sequel, the detective continues chasing after dead-ends that lead him no closer to the mysterious Mr Lee. Once Hyo-joo’s character turns up in front of Won-ho, he senses that she can lead him to the missing link, especially since she’s the only one who truly knows the elusive man’s real identity, but she too poses a great threat to Won-ho, being a dreadful villain herself.
