Becoming Witch Episode 9 Review: Burying the Husbands

Becoming Witch (The Witch is Alive/마녀는 살아있다)is a mystery-comedy Korean drama series created by Kim Yun-chul and Park Pa-ran and starring Lee Yu-ri, Lee Min-young and Yoon So-yi. The TV Chosun series has 12 episodes total and Becoming Witch Episode 9 has a runtime of 60 minutes.

Netflix describes the show as:

THREE WOMEN IN THEIR 40S REACH A BREAKING POINT AS THEIR ALREADY-FRUSTRATING LIVES GO COMPLETELY OFF THE RAILS.

– Becoming Witch Episode 9 Review Contains Mild Spoilers –

Becoming Witch Episode 9 opens with a mini recap of 10 minutes of what happened in the previous episode. We see Jin-a attacking Woo-bin and almost beating him to death whereas Ma-ri attacks Nak-gu. Hui-su is seen back at her home destroying her husband’s camera and enjoying her alone time as her husband fights to get off the plane to get back his camera. Hui-su receives a call from her friends to aid them.

The three meet at the old gas station which happens to be Jin-a scene of the crime and together they shit Woo-bin’s body in the trunk of the car and en route to an unknown destination. Nak-gu is discovered by the paramedics at his house and is only injured in his head. He is visited by the police investigating Ma-ri’s whereabouts as she is missing. Ma-ri, on the other hand, with her friends visits the Oracle for help, who suggests burying Woo-bin’s body.

Nak-gu tries contacting Go-eun but, is unable to get in touch with her. With Ma-ri missing and realizing she had threatened to kill Go-eun previously, Nak-gu sets out to find where Ma-ri is and if she is responsible for missing Go-eun. He shows the police a video of Ma-ri exiting the apartment but, they are of no help probing him to take a step.

The three women get supplements for burying Woo-bin and we discover Go-eun’s phone with Ma-ri. Nak-gu gets a credit bill of Ma-ri’s transaction and gets the location for Go-eun’s phone and sets out to find them. The women head towards an empty landscape to bury Woo-bin but, not before Jin-a receives a call from Woo-bin’s phone where we see the serial killer on the loose singing his iconic song to her.

Jin-a is panicked but, the three end up at the location of burying and start digging the hole. While digging Hui-su feels nauseous and lies to her friends that she is pregnant. As a happy Hui-su sits by and Jin-a and Ma-ri celebrate being aunts soon, we see that Nak-gu has already reached the place and discovers Woo-bin’s body. However, Woo-bin is pretty much alive. But, Nak-gu does not find Go-eun’s body.

The women get a hint of something is wrong and go to check the trunk when Woo-bin attacks them. But, he falls short in the face of three angry women and they decide to bury him alive with his head out of the ground. Go-eun’s phone which is with Ma-ri notifies her of Nak-gu being in close proximity and before long Nak-gu tries attacking Ma-ri but, ends up falling into the dug hole.

To make things more interesting, we see Mu-young also arrive, looking for his camera. However, Jin-a and Ma-ri throw him in the pit too.

Becoming Witch Episode 9 Ending

Towards the end of Becoming Witch Episode 9, before our female protagonists can take any action, the site is visited by the old gangster whose money Woo-bin and Du-chong lost in their crypto scheme. He questions Woo-bin with his disciples as Jin-a, Ma-ri and Hui-su hide.

However, the noise from the bushed indicates their presence and the last thing we see before Becoming Witch Episode 9 ends is the old gangster’s disciple running towards the bushes to find the intruders.

Becoming Witch Episode 9: Final Thoughts

With the show’s progress Becoming Witch Episode 9 seems more scripted, funny and structured. The satire is more prominent and the manipulation and issues Jin-a, Ma-ri and Hui-su are facing seem more relevant and scary. The tune of the show is getting better and with a cliffhanger ending, the makers have finally decided to keep its audience on the edge and excited for the upcoming episode.
