Because I Hate Korea Stills: Go Ah-sung’s Tough Life Prompted Her Move to New Zealand for a New Beginning

The upcoming film Because I Hate Korea has recently released new stills featuring Go Ah-sung in a transformative role. Based on a bestselling novel, the movie explores Gye Na’s quest for personal happiness as she leaves behind her life in Korea for a new beginning in New Zealand. Directed by Jang Kun-jae, the movie also stars Joo Jong-hyuk, Kim Woo-kyum, a.mond, Oh Min-ae, Park Sung-il and others.

The newly unveiled stills of 한국이 싫어서 offer a compelling look into Gye Na’s dual life. The images vividly capture her difficult existence in Korea, where she faces long commutes, a grueling job, and a strained relationship with her long-term boyfriend Ji Myeong (Kim Woo-kyum). The scenes of her bundled up in a heavy coat during her daily struggles starkly contrast with her vibrant and cheerful demeanour seen in New Zealand, highlighting the dramatic shift in her circumstances.

In the film, Gye Na’s decision to move to New Zealand stems from her dissatisfaction with her current life. She grapples with a demanding job market, a two-hour daily commute, and the pressures from her boyfriend and family. Ji Myeong’s desire for marriage without preparation and her parents’ suggestion to use their savings for an apartment weigh heavily on her. Feeling trapped and unfulfilled, Gye Na decides that even the smallest comforts, such as escaping the cold and hunger, are crucial to her happiness.
