Beast of Bangalore Indian Predator Twitter Reactions: Viewers Question the Incompetency of Police and Legal System

Netflix India’s latest true crime series was released last week on 16th December 2022. Soon after the release of Beast of Bangalore Indian Predator Twitter Reactions also started coming in, discussing the three-part docuseries. The series investigates the story of a dangerous predator on the streets of Bangalore – lurking in the shadows and leaving women feeling unsafe.

The series is written and directed by Ashwin Rai Shetty and executive produced by Samaira Kanwar, Vatsala Aron and Niharika Kotwal. The synopsis of the documentary reads, “A vicious predator’s brutal — and murderous — pursuit of women sends a faltering police force on a wild hunt, while a state reel in terror.”

It explores the timeline of Umesh Reddy from 1996 to 2002, when he was finally caught after many escapes & chases. He was tried and convicted in 9 cases, including the rape and murder of Jayashree. He was acquitted in 11 cases of assault and robbery due to a lack of sufficient evidence. On 26 October 2006, Judge K Sukanya of the Bangalore city fast-track court gave him multiple sentences including a death sentence.

Still from Beast of Bangalore Indian Predator

The earlier documentaries in the Indian Predator series were – The Butcher of DelhiThe Diary of a Serial Killer and Murder in a Courtroom. They investigated different criminals and the gruesome crimes committed by them. However, many viewers think that this documentary falls short in terms of material and analysis of the criminal.

The documentary shows how police failed to keep Umesh Reddy captive and would easily let him fool them to escape. This has found most of the viewers baffled at their incompetence and not doing a good job of actually keeping the criminal behind bars. It makes us question if the police have not let it escape then maybe many lives would have been saved.

Even some of the comments of the police officers who blamed the victim are not sitting well with the audience. It truly shows how things have not changed in terms of women’s safety and not blaming the victim when the criminal and his crimes are so evident.
