The film commences three years after a catastrophic earthquake has ravaged the entire city, leaving its surviving inhabitants struggling for survival. In the wake of this natural disaster, the world undergoes a profound transformation, characterized by the scarcity of essential resources such as food and clean water. The remaining populace is forced to resort to unconventional means of sustenance, including hunting wild animals like crocodiles. At the centre of this post-apocalyptic narrative is Nam San, a formidable boxer whose exceptional strength becomes crucial for navigating the harsh realities of this new world. Alongside him is Lee Jun-young, an 18-year-old boy and Nam San’s sole trusted companion in this desolate landscape.

Amidst the desolation, a poignant relationship unfolds between Nam San and Su Na, along with her grandmother. The two elderly women hold a deep trust in Nam San, rooted in his altruistic actions during the earthquake. Su Na, in particular, reminds Nam San of his own daughter, forging a unique bond between them. As they grapple with the challenges of survival, Nam San becomes not just a protector but also a provider, ensuring the well-being of Su Na and her grandmother by assisting them with essential resources such as food and other survival necessities.

The plot takes a dramatic turn when a group of marauding individuals attempts to abduct Su Na, driven by the scarcity of young girls in the city. In a display of valour, Nam San thwarts their sinister intentions, rescuing Su Na from their clutches. However, a new player enters the scene—a teacher from a distant building, the lone structure left standing in the city.

Claiming to run a refuge centre, she extends an invitation to Su Na and her grandmother, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the future generation. The refuge centre promises not only safety but also provisions of food and clean water. What makes it even more enticing is the assurance that the building is protected by ex-military officers, acting as a deterrent against further attacks by marauders and goons.

Dr. Yang Gi-soo, a highly skilled physician, faced an unimaginable tragedy when he lost his daughter prior to a devastating earthquake. Overwhelmed by grief, he embarked on a perilous journey to defy mortality itself. Driven by an intense desire to revive his deceased child, he delved into groundbreaking experiments, venturing into the realm of the unknown.

His ambitious undertaking involved the manipulation of human biology, with a primary focus on achieving a state of immortality. Dr Yang’s experiments led to the creation of beings that resembled zombies, exhibiting the appearance and speech patterns of ordinary humans. However, these entities possessed an uncanny resilience, rendering them virtually indestructible. Only through severing their heads or targeting their cranial region could these creatures be vanquished.

In pursuit of his quest for immortality, Dr. Yang sought the cooperation of the military, convincing them that his unconventional methods were the key to survival in a world seemingly devoid of hope. These innocent souls became the unwitting suppliers of the essential substances needed for the doctor’s injections, believed by the military to be the only salvation from an irreversible descent into chaos.

Dr. Yang’s ultimate goal was to utilize the results of his experimentation to resurrect his beloved daughter. The use of young children as subjects was a calculated choice, as their bodies provided the necessary components for the transformative injections. With the completion of his audacious project, Dr. Yang aspired to reunite with his daughter, defying the boundaries between life and death in his relentless pursuit of a miraculous reunion.

Did Nam San manage to save Su Na?

After Su Na and her grandmother were taken by the teacher, Choi Ji-wan Nam San continually missed her. He implored Nam San to accompany him to the apartment building. During an encounter, Choi Ji-wan witnessed thugs killing Su Na’s grandmother. Attempting to defend her, Choi Ji-wan engaged in a futile battle against seemingly indestructible assailants resembling zombies. Lee Eun-ho intervened, saving Nam San and Choi Ji-wan. She revealed herself as a former military member, explaining the unusual resilience of the assailants. However, upon learning about the sinister experiments and the doctor’s actions in the building, she left, seeking Nam San’s assistance to save their friends.

Upon discovering the use of young children in experiments, Nam San resolved to enter the building to rescue Su Na. Inside, Su Na became suspicious of the doctor and other occupants, as they repeatedly prevented her from seeing her supposedly unwell grandmother. Unaware of her grandmother’s demise, they claimed she was undergoing treatment. Su Na, taken to the 8th floor where experiments were conducted, noticed every student had a mark on their neck. They were coerced into consuming food and water. Suspicious of the water, Su Na refrained from drinking it. During the experiment, the substance injected into her body triggered a reaction, as she had abstained from consuming the suspicious water.

Meanwhile, Nam San, Choi Ji-wan, and Lee Eun-ho initiated a rescue mission. Engaging in intense combat against zombie-like assailants, they confronted Doctor Yang Gi-soo. Realising the perilous situation for his daughter, the doctor attempted to flee with her body. In the ensuing chaos, he resorted to gunfire, inadvertently causing the water-filled bag containing his daughter to rupture. Upon discovering her tragic demise, Nam San confronted and killed the doctor, ultimately saving the remaining residents.
