Attack on Titan Final Season Part 3 or Shingeki no Kyojin Final Season Part 3, is returning for the very last time to bid us goodbye. Although the audience is sad about their most beloved anime’s end, they are also concerned about the ending of the series. The fans are conflicted if the anime should follow the manga’s ending or should it have an anime original ending.
Written and illustrated by Hajime Isamaya, when he revealed the very last chapter of the series, the reactions from fans were complete polar opposites. Either they loved how the story panned out, or they absolutely loathed certain characters’ final send-off. Animated under MAPPA studios and directed by Yuichiro Hayashi and Jun Shishido, many fans are expecting them to alter the ending.

–Attack on Titan Major Spoilers Ahead–
However, first, let us discuss how the story ended in the manga. In the final chapters, as the rumbling went on, there was no possible way to stop Eren and Zeke. Levi Ackerman, even with a less-than-functioning body and only two fingers attached to his right hand, remained determined till the end to complete his objective. As the group was moving closer to the Yaeger brothers, Levi gets a glimpse at Zeke. Without a second thought, he flies across with his ODM gear and slices Zeke’s head with one movement.
Even after killing Zeke, the rumbling did not stop. It will only end with Eren, so Mikasa goes ahead to grab the opportunity. In flashbacks, she sees herself in a secluded cabin where she and Eren spend the last remaining four years of his life together. The illusion stops and she enters the mouth of the founding Titan, where Eren’s head can be seen. She swiftly slices it off, holds the detached head in her hands and kisses his lips one last time.
As soon as Eren dies, the rumbling stops and also the existence of Titans. All the Titans will be reverted back to their original human form. Eren can be seen getting buried under a huge tree where people often come and pay their respects. However, soon after, enemy forces are seen attacking Paradis Island, and it becomes an abandoned land. Years after, a boy encounters the tree again, which has grown enormous, and the manga ends there. It indicates that Titans were never eradicated, and the cycle will begin again.
Will the anime have an original ending?
To answer the big question, of whether the anime will have an original ending, the answer is still unclear. Until the episode released we cannot be sure how it will end, but there are many hints which indicate that the anime will follow Isamaya’s ending. Frankly, although it might displease most of the viewers the manga’s end is the most fitting. There is no way to ensure Eren’s survival, and moreover, no matter what, the harsh reality is the world can never truly be devoid of hatred and prejudice.
Some fans have also caught some of the major hints; for eg, in one of the key visuals, which showcases the cabin where Eren and Mikasa spend time together in the final moments, there is a shadow of a couple getting intimate on one of the windows. It indicates that Mikasa will be the one to finish off Eren at the end.
