Atithi Bhooto Bhava Review: Jackie Shroff, Pratik Gandhi Film is Major WTF Vibes

Atithi Bhooto Bhava is a romantic comedy film directed by Hardik Gajjar and stars Jackie Shroff, Pratik Gandhi, Sharmin Segal and Divinaa Thackur, alongside other cast members. The movie has a runtime of 108 minutes.

Zee5 describes the movie as:

Srikant bumps into a ghost who claims to be his grandson from his past life. The ghost urges Srikant to fulfil his promise of helping him meet his sweetheart Manju.

When Atithi Bhooto Bhava starts, you immediately dislike Srikant, who has clearly taken his live-in girlfriend of 4 years, Netra, for granted. He’s bitter, annoying and rather dismissive of Netra’s feelings. When he forgets her birthday, things turn upside down, and he gets together with a ghost who takes a special interest in him.

As I mentioned previously, Srikant is rather annoying at first. Thus, when he gets haunted by a ghost, you feel rather happy at the outcome. The story obviously takes him on a journey of self-discovery and changes things in his life. The movie is a silly and funny rom-com that doesn’t make a lot of sense or doesn’t land its jokes most of the time. If anything, it’s a retelling of old tales with a fresh pairing.

There’s also an ungodly number of songs in the movie for some reason, and it wouldn’t be too much if I mention that the songs cover a really big chunk of the runtime. None of the songs is, unfortunately, worth remembering and come in all of a sudden without notice.

Anyway, Atithi Bhooto Bhava features both of our primary characters being rather odd. They make the weirdest decisions. Jackie Shroff’s character Makhan Singh isn’t any better, but then again, he isn’t of this life, so can you blame him? I don’t understand the comedy either – one minute, the characters are adults whose discussions are logical. The next moment they almost tell Sucharita that they are trying to find a ghost’s lover.

It’s not really funny, but it definitely is mildly amusing, so you won’t be totally annoyed but will definitely be extremely confused. Srikant and Netra constantly bicker and fight over the stupidest and most inane things, and the movie is filled with unnecessary things that are meant to be funny but just feel too much.

Plus, on top of that, the movie loves to remind you over and over that love is this great feeling and when in love, you need to oversee each other’s flaws. It repeats these themes over and over again, along with a few other things. It tells us these things so many times that the entire notion becomes silly and over-the-top. You don’t feel these emotions since they feel rather forced after a while.

Pratik Gandhi and Sharmin Segal are one of the good things about Atithi Bhooto Bhava. Their pairing looks rather cute, and if they weren’t the oddest bunch with the weirdest fixations, they would’ve really left an impact.

Summing Up: Atithi Bhooto Bhava

Atithi Bhooto Bhava

Atithi Bhooto Bhava is more or less a tale of how a couple finds themselves after fighting for the majority of the movie’s runtime. You’d expect them to go to couples’ counselling to sort out their endless relationship issues, but who needs to spend so much money when you can go on a road trip with a ghost and eat, pray, love a bit?

The movie is good for a casual watch in the background when you have something to do. However, it’s annoyingly plain with nothing to distinguish it from the hundreds of other forms of media tackling the same subject matter. Plus, there are too many songs that are utterly forgettable for an OTT release.

Atithi Bhooto Bhava is streaming on Zee5.
