As The Crow Flies Plot

The series follows Asli, an ambitious woman with her eyes on the stars. She wants to be like Lale Kirnan, a well-known and successful journalist with a huge fan following. Or, does she want to become Lale? In a twisted story of obsession, revenge and ambition, will Asli take over Lale’s life? Or will she go down like so many others before her?

As The Crow Flies Cast

The drama-thriller series stars Birce Akalay and Miray Daner in lead roles along with Ibrahim Celikkol, Burak Yamantürk, Irem Sak and Defne Kayalar, alongside other cast members.

Let’s start from the beginning – who is Asli? Asli Tuna is a journalism student who wants to make it big – she wants to be in Lale Kiran’s shoes. Lale is the top journalist, the one you aspire to be. Filled with ambition and hate, Asli pulls out all the stops to get to Lale’s level. She fibs her way to get a job, without even sitting for her interview, gets rid of all the other interns to secure a place in the studio and slowly but steadily gets rid of Lale’s PA to take over her place.

Asli doesn’t care what she does or whom she hurts to be recognised and seen. Everything is fair to her, even when it destroys the lives of those around her. Ok, coming to her target, Lale – unlike other high-strung journalists, Lale is quite nice. I actually thought that she would turn out to be a ruthless boss who tortures her employees but she does her job extremely well and is very compassionate.

What Asli fails to see is that Lale is a hard worker, who has made this life for herself, sacrificing having a good time to focus on her career. The opportunities that she has made for herself did not fall in her lap – these are things that she had fought very hard for. However, in her blind ambition, Asli doesn’t see these things and just sees her as a target to shoot down. She’s the conqueror who will take down the news mogul at all costs.

What happened to Asli and Lale?

Lale ended up getting to know about Asli’s lies and deceits from Ozge after the latter mentioned to her how someone told her that she wasn’t interested in visiting her at the hospital after Ozge got into an accident. Meanwhile, Asli had told Lale that Ozge didn’t want to see her. When this truth comes out, she realises all the things that she had ignored previously that were blaring red flags. However, even after learning all of these things, Lale doesn’t give her away to the police and instead gives her another chance to fight for her right to be a big journalist. Unfortunately, Asli didn’t want to take up that challenge and caused more ruckus in Lale’s life.

We later also get to know that Asli was working with Gul to bring Lale’s reputation down so that she’d be forced to work with her (remember the contract that she had brought up in the first few episodes?) for 3 more years. They utilised Muge’s jealousy against Lale and used her to harm Lale as well. In the end, Lale leaves her job after falling out with her entire office and Kenan, who clearly desperately wanted her back in his life, and later chooses to spend time with her family. Kenan seemingly leaves too, although they don’t specifically show that, probably realising this is the end of the road for him.

And Asli gets to live her dream, of becoming the next Lale. Only… she doesn’t feel as confident as Lale neither does she feel she’s ready. As I mentioned earlier, Lale fought her way to the top, she made herself the person that she is. However, that’s not true for Asli, who manipulated her way to fame. Without the immense amount of experience, Asli doesn’t have the charm or the confidence that her predecessor had, leaving her feeling insecure in front of a new batch of interns. Plus, the people around her don’t respect her the same way that they do Lale, which is also a problem for her.

Muge and Lale started The Other Side together with Kenan. However, after their first episode, the channel wanted only Lale to be the face of the show which seriously affected Muge’s confidence and after she was made the editor-in-chief, her own feelings and insecurities made her feel like she was second best after Lale and that no one really cared about her in the office. It becomes clear later that Lale never really thought that, but Muge refuses to believe her.

In the end, Muge conspires with Gul and Asli to embarrass Lale in front of the audience by giving her false news but when their lies are exposed on live TV, Muge is left embarrassed. Unfortunately, not a lot changes after Lale leaves. She becomes the theoretic boss with Gul and mentions that Asli doesn’t have the charm of their “golden horse” and that they’ll need to go through several changes to find another good journalist who shines as bright as Lale.
