Apink members Chorong and Bomi have come together to form a new sub-unit called ChoBom. They released their debut song Copycat on 12 July 2022. The subunit’s single comes 11 years after the group debuted in 2011. The unit name is a mix of both the members’ names, which sounds like a cute combination.
Copycat is a pop dance song, with a concept that tries to show the desire to copy someone when one falls in love. The lyrics were written by prominent lyricists like Cho Yoon-Kyung and produced by global artists including Jurek Reunamaki and GG Ramirez. In addition to the title track, the new single album includes two B-sides, Oscar and Feel Something.
In the music video, we see Chorong and Bomi in white clothes, acting like a mannequin. Until they see each other and their lives are full of vibrant colours to the point that they seem to look like each other. Especially in the chorus part when they are mirroring each other in pink outfits and if you don’t look closely it will look like the same person and their mirror image.
The aesthetic of the song is bright and they play with a lot of colours, whether it is in the outfits or the set props and design. They want to express the feeling of falling in love with someone and slowly becoming like them. The fandom of the group, Panda, are really liking the new subunit and calls their Copycat music video beautiful yet haunting, with the members’ sweet vocals.
Copycat arrives five months after the group’s special anniversary album ‘Horn’, which also marked the departure of the original member Son Na-Eun in April 2022. Leaving the group with members including Chorong, Bomi, Jung Eunji, Oh Hayoung and Kim Namjoo.
