Ammu Ending Explained: How Does Ammu Get Out of Her Abusive Marriage?

Ammu is the first Telugu language original film released on Amazon Prime Video. This thriller drama film is written and directed by Charukesh Sekar and produced by Kalyan Subramaniam & Kaarthekeyen Santhanam of Stone Bench Films. It has a runtime of about 2 hours and 15 minutes long.

The cast of the series includes Aishwarya Lekshmi as Amudha, Naveen Chandra as Ravi, Bobby Simha as Prabhu, Darbha Appaji Ambarisha as Ravi’s Father, Maala Parvathi as Kalpana (Ammu’s mother), Raghu Babu as Beggar, Satya Krishnan as Sathya, Anjali Ameer as Linny, Subba Rao Vepada as Ismail, Anusha Prabhu as Geetha and Prem Sagar as Iqbal.

It tells a story of is a story of resilience and courage. Ammu thought marriage was a fairy tale – full of love and magic. It all changed when her cop-husband Ravi hit her for the very first time. What Ammu thought was a one-off incident turned into a never-ending cycle of abuse, trapping her and breaking her soul and spirit. Pushed to her limits, Ammu teams up with an unlikely ally to break free.

In the film, we see that at first Ammu tries to go back home and meets a beggar at the station. On interacting with him, she backtracks in her mind and thinks that if she loves him enough, then he will eventually change and respect her the same. But things change for the worse and even after taking the contraceptive pills, she gets pregnant; as Ravi changed the pills.

One day the safety watch volunteers hear Ammu screaming and investigates all the houses to help if anyone is suffering from domestic abuse. But leave out Inspector Ravi’s house, at which Ammu gathers her courage and tells everything to them. Inspector Sathya asks for Inspector Iqbal’s help, who takes them to DIG’s office for an official complaint.

But Ravi reaches there and intimidates her to not complain. On the other hand, we see a prisoner named Prabhu get out of jail after 10 years and wish to see his only sister get married. But on his parole, he has to come and sign an attendance register every day at the police station, where Ravi makes him do all the menial chores in return for letting him sign it.

One day Prabhu beats up two people in a drunk state and as a punishment, Ravi beats him badly. Unable to take it anymore, Prabhu accuses him of picking on the weak, like his wife, which makes him even angrier and threatens to cancel his parole. At the same time, DIG comes for an inspection and Prabhu with Ammu are hidden in the washroom.

Together in the washroom, the two victims get to know each other and devise a plan to help each other. To avoid getting back to prison before his sister’s marriage, Prabhu agrees and Inspector Iqbal helps them as well. While taking him to prison, Prabhu runs away and hides in a shed in Ammu’s house.

On the other hand, Prabhu’s family members start questioning the police about his whereabouts, as he was last seen entering the Police station but never came out. It turns into a long protest which threatens Ravi’s job, as he was responsible for it. To save his job, he places miscreants in the protest group, who attack the police station and taking the advantage of the situation, they delete all the recorded CCTV footage of them beating Prabhu.

While deleting, Ravi sees his wife and Prabhu talking about something for a long time, it makes him suspicious and he takes out his listening device again and tries to hear if Prabhu is in his house. Simultaneously, Prabhu is actually having lunch in his house and Ravi rushes to catch him, but Iqbal informs Ammu beforehand and they clear any evidence of Prabhu.

When Ravi couldn’t find anything, he confronts Ammu, but she pretends to not know anything and confesses that she is pregnant, so that he wouldn’t harm her. She also finds a voice recording/listening device in a container in Kitchen. In the morning, Ravi wakes up to a video from Prabhu, posted on the internet, where he reveals everything that happened to him.

Unperturbed by it, Ravi casually tells Ammu that he will not be punished for any crime and she should think about, what to do next. But little did he know that Ammu used the same recording device to record all his confessions. Ultimately, at the DIG’s office, Prabhu shows up to surrender and Ammu finally files a complaint, which leads to Ravi’s arrest.

In the end, we see that Ammu is sitting outside her house with Linny and pondering about what to do next. Whether to keep her child or not is a big decision that she has to make, but for now, she wants to feel free and eat at the restaurant that she had been wanting to go to.

Ammu is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
