Alchemy of Souls season 2 (Alchemy of Souls Part 2: Light and Shadow/ 환혼: 파트2) is the sequel of the Korean historical drama series directed by Park Joon-hwa and starring Lee Jae-wook, Jung So-min, Hwang Min-hyun, Shin Seung-ho, Yoo Jun-sang, Oh Na-ra and Jo Jae-yoon, alongside other cast members.

The sequel brings the story 3 years after the tragic ending we witnessed in season 1, and with Go Yoon-jung joining the cast as the new female lead. As Jang Uk becomes a hunter of the soul-shifters, a young woman, a prisoner in her own home, seeks his help to reclaim her freedom.

Alchemy of Souls season 2 takes over tvN’s Saturday-Sunday 9:10 OM KST timeslot previously held by Under the Queen’s Umbrella.

Alchemy of Souls Season 2 Plot

tvN’s synopsis of the upcoming season reads: “Jang Uk returns from death, and three years later, the story of the mages unfolds anew. Jang Uk becomes a hunter of the soul-shifters when a young woman, a prisoner in her own home, seeks his help to reclaim her freedom.”

Directed by Park Joon-hwa and written by the Hong sisters- Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran, the show stars Lee Jae-wook, Go Yoon-jung, Hwang Min-hyun, Shin Seong-ho, alongside other cast members.

A souls shifter is attacking the people and words of it being none other than Naksu is spreading all over Daeho. As the King gives Jang Uk the impossible mission of capturing Naksu, the crown prince worries while the queen prepares for a banquet according to Jin Mu’s plans.

Elsewhere, Bu-yeon confronts Seo Yul and tells him about the bloodworm inside of him which brings many questions to the table for So Yi. Meanwhile, an attack on Bu-yeon is on the way as villains plan to separate the couple.

Alchemy of Souls season 2 episode 3 sees Jang Uk successfully taking Bu-yeon away from the assembly after she fakes her pregnancy. Later, she gains bits of her memory as she comes in contact with Naksu’s sword and later the grave built by Jang Uk for Naksu. There she sees the blue jade that piques her curiosity.

Meanwhile, Jang Uk’s plans for bringing Bu-yeon into his life are clearly seen by Park Jin who tries to change his decision. Elsewhere, Jin Mu has a plan prepared to separate the two so as to get his hands on Jinyowon.

Later, Bu-yeon calls Jang Uk to the grave in the forest with the yin and yang jade which first fills him up with hope only to later disappoint him. Bu-yeon tells him that she has regained another bit of her memory and it looks like they have liked each other for a long time.
