Agents of Mystery Season 2 Review
Building on the foundation established in Season 1, Agents of Mystery Season 2 continues the hybrid format of variety show and immersive role-playing mystery, raising the narrative stakes. The core appeal of the show, a cast placed inside elaborately designed scenarios which they must solve, proves to be a source of mystery and tension for the viewers, who depend on the cast’s chemistry and intense puzzles to be hooked to their screens.
The second season maintains the escape room meets drama vibe, wherein each arc unfolds over multiple episodes. The pacing is, thus, more disciplined, and it spends less time on repetitive deduction loops, focusing instead on quickly solving one puzzle and moving on to the next. The reveals, thus, are more tense and layered as a result and will leave you thoroughly engaged from one episode to the next.

The production design remains the defining strength of the show as the sets are extremely detailed, making them stand out from other variety show backdrops. The lighting and sound design continue to be quite well and the twists and turns introduced this season are also quite enjoyable. A lot of the puzzles are also quite well done and will make you think for a bit.
On that note, the cast dynamics become one of the most important parts of the show, and the members this season showcase better communication and chemistry. Gabee replaces Lee Eun-ji this season and feels right for the role, although fans might miss Lee’s fun vibe at times. Either way, cast chemistry reduces chaos this season and makes the narrative clearer. Tension is frequently offset by humorous moments by the cast, whose spontaneous reactions and interpretations of clues become the highlight.

The writing this season is also quite well-done as it features more cohesive thematic arcs and fewer arbitrary red herrings. Most of the situations are quite to the point, and solutions feel earned instead of abruptly revealed. This also gives a chance for the motivations of the cast to shine through, and we see a side to them that was previously not shown. However, some episodes might drag for a bit and will feel slumped, but overall, it’s a well-done season to enjoy a lighthearted moment with.
Final Thoughts

Agents of Mystery Season 2 is an enjoyable addition to the Korean variety show genre and leaves you entertained with its elevated sets and mysteries. Overall, this one focuses on refinement instead of reinvention, and although it doesn’t drastically change anything, I think it makes for good entertainment, especially if you’re looking for a more polished and immersive experience than its predecessor.
