The new Netflix documentary A Trip to Infinity explores the vastness of our universe, and what exactly infiniteness stands for. The physics-centric doc is directed by Jonathan Halperin and Drew Takahashi.
It features several particle Physicists and Mathematicians involved in the process of explaining infinity. Moreover, the complex explanation is translated into fun learning exercises, by humor-filled animation.
A Trip to Infinity Ending Explained
The documentary is carried out in multiple chapters and wraps all of it meticulously. Though there is no guarantee to find all the answers, the process is intriguing in itself.

During the last few chapters, the approach becomes poignant, and explanations more direct. The panel of physicists gets deep into quantum theories about wormholes. And the debate on infinities gets richer and more conclusive.
Near the climax of the documentary, there is a brilliant voiceover about our futile existence. Throughout this project of learning, we are repeatedly hinted that the universe is too big to give a damn.

Our existence in the space and time continuum is ceaseless and a never-ending one. Maybe we don’t matter at all. And if that is the case, then what is the point of everything?
Though the question is largely philosophical to answer, we find a beautiful explanation by one of the panelists. He just mentions that one day he fell in love. And it mattered.
When a science documentary mingles with human emotions to find some answers, it’s a wholesome experience. As a viewer, no one expects this innocent transition from quantum mechanics to love in general. It’s such a rare and pure instance, that you can’t help but connect deeply.
At last, the team of scientists compares us to felines. And The last chapter reads that we are cats with a significant sense of curiosity. A cat who can look in wonder, and try to learn about his surroundings. But will fail to find all the answers.
Similarly, we can try and have a go for it. An attempt to learn everything about the universe and the concept of infinity. But some things will remain forever out of our reach.
Usually, documentaries have a typical song to conclude things. And this one is no exception. The song that plays out during the end credits, summarizes it all. Love is all that matters in the end. At the end of Forever. Perhaps a little cliche for physics, but true.
