A Man on the Inside Review

The show follows the adventures of a retired engineering professor Charles who has distanced himself from everything after the passing of his wife. However, when he gets involved in investigating a robbery after being hired by a PI, he is in for a new journey ahead. Charles is sent undercover into a retirement home to investigate the case, but this newbie spy isn’t always focused on the mission given to him.

As he gets more involved with the other residents of the retirement home than he was supposed to, Charles finds himself coming out of his shell once again. Leaving behind his mission on certain occasions, he begins to enjoy his new life as he makes new friends and finds a new purpose in life. Thus, ensuring the audience a beautiful experience that has their hearts melting while they laugh out loud.

The show is certainly entertaining and has an equally entertaining plot that binds all the elements presented to us together. It doesn’t focus on the fragility of the retirement years but shows the fun one can have in life during those years instead. Charles navigates through this alternative option and takes viewers through the same which warms our hearts in unexpected ways.

Any story with a focus on an elderly group is usually heartwarming, and this show only takes it to the next level by showing us the fun personalities one can develop in these years. Be it Charles whose excitement is no less childish than anyone else when he is asked to become a spy, or the eccentric friends Florence and Virginia who know how to have fun. The many characters of this story are unique and intriguing, and only hit our empathetic nerve throughout the show.

The cinematography is not dull but instead takes a vibrant and colourful route in this film. This adds to the cheerful years that can become joyful with a simple shift in perspective. The colours only get better with each passing episode and we see the joy experienced by the characters blend with the background which further affects the overall vibe of the show.

Moving on, the performance of the cast was brilliant and eye-catching, leaving no room for any distraction which in turn delivers a smooth ride to the viewers. The cast simply lived their characters, be they big or small, and showed their unique characteristics in ways that could not have been performed better by anyone else. Ted Danson, above all, stands tall in the spotlight as he sweeps us off our feet with his skills.

Finally, I have to mention my love for the way dementia is shown in the show. The way Charles recollects the experience he had when his wife was suffering and the way Gladys is shown as she slowly drifts into the forgetfulness the disorder brings, we can say that the disorder has been studied well. The facts are right and it isn’t something the patient suffers from but also affects the people around them, which is why Charles can still be seen in trauma.

Summing Up

Overall, the show is simply beautiful to watch and delivers entertainment right as it is supposed to be. It is a show worth watching with your family and can connect different generations with its plot and characters. Moreover, it doesn’t take long to finish. A complete package that you wouldn’t want to miss out on.
