A Love Other Than Yours opens with a mature premise and a central romance right away. Without having to use episodes to build a romance narrative, we straight up see a couple cheating and breaking up. The KBS drama opens with Namgoong Ho and Lee Mi-do, already ten years into their relationship, planning to separate. Let’s begin!
A Love Other Than Yours episode 1 runtime is 60 minutes. The series (너 말고 다른 연애) stars Seo Kang-joon, Ahn Eun-jin, Lee Joo-ahn, Jo A-ram, Kim Mi-kyung, Kim Nam-hee and Lee Min-jae. It is directed by Hwang Seung-ki and Lee Ga-ram.

Relationship Falls Apart
Our protagonists, Namgoong Ho and Mi-do, are childhood sweethearts who became a couple. After being together for 10 years, Ho believes he’s going to marry Mi-do, given he has a stable job and he is certain of his plans. However, Mi-do has other issues. Mi-do, an aspiring film director, is already at her weakest point.
All her projects are failing, and seeing Ho stay stable, she’s worried about her future. Despite Ho being supportive of her dreams and sticking by her, her insecurity overpowers her and makes her heart make the decision.

Ho’s Support Pressures Mi-do
For Ho, Mi-do is the best and brightest person he’s ever met and someone who has saved his life. His love life means a lot to him, as her motivation is the one that kept him going. However, for Mi-do, she feels like the relationship has drained her energy and that she has not accomplished anything.
Seeing them both clearly proves that sometimes the person who loves us the most tends to become the mirror that also shows who we truly are. For Mi-do, seeing Ho accomplish everything shows her that she has done absolutely nothing but has only empowered him. Though he cheers her up for her dreams, she’s still a nobody.
Unfortunately, their breakup happens, and it sort of feels very rushed for a couple who shared their emotions for over 10 years.
New People Enter
Agh, yes. After the breakup, of course we have the other leads entering. We have Han Tae-sung entering Mi-do’s life in a non-romantic way. He is the legal advisor of a film company, and he asks Mi-do about her settlement. Mi-do is furious at him as she’s already going through too much in life. However, he becomes intrigued by her fiesty attitude.
We see Park Soo-ah joining as a junior at Ho’s workplace. Soo-ah seems to test Ho’s stubborn personality, and she isn’t seen impressed by him. But their dynamic proves that they might have a chance at each other. We’re not sure that Soo-ah and Tae-sung would become the endgame for Mi-do and Ho, but we sure know they’ve been introduced to create tension.
Seo Kang-jun and Ahn Eun-jin Carry the Drama
The cast are actually really good! Seo Kang-joon as Namgoong Ho is a pleasant watch. He does fit the role of a man with a stable income and lots of love for his woman. He isn’t the perfect boyfriend but is a man who tried to be one. Kang-jun has cleverly acted as Ho, representing how beneath the character’s confidence lies a huge vulnerability.
Ahn Eun-jin, meanwhile, gives Mi-do the needed messy emotional drama queen vibes. Mi-do is a frustrated and lost character. She has a wonderful partner, but she also knows that he no longer notices her misery and only tends to motivate her while she has nothing.
To add on, adding a shirtless scene of Kang-joon definitely raised the series’ ratings, thanks to the casting director!
Final Thoughts: Uneven Storytelling
Episode 1 introduced the characters, their personalities, struggles, a break-up and a possible new romance. However, it was vague. The storytelling felt rushed, and the career plot becoming the cause behind the breakup feels complicated.
However, this series still feels refreshing due to its unique plot. We are starting with a heartbreak, and so we’re yet to see what’s going to be built next.
After ten years together, Ho and Mi-do aren’t simply deciding on their separation, but they’re wondering whether their love was worthy. They are trying to figure out who they are without the relationship that has been shaping them. And this is a plot that I’m looking for!
