Dandadan Season 2 Episode 4 Recap
The episode kicks off with Momo racing against time to stop a volcanic eruption threatening the village. It’s here that she realises the village legend was never truly about a great serpent, but rather the mysterious fountain she encountered earlier. Over time, the story had been twisted, leading to needless human sacrifices rooted in a false narrative.
Even with the solution in hand and the crisis nearly under control, the Kito family continues to resist her, refusing to listen or grasp the urgency of the situation. Their interference only eases once Momo’s allies step in to support her. Unfortunately, Jiji remains possessed by the Evil Eye and returns to wreak havoc once again.
Thankfully, Momo isn’t alone this time as Seiko, Mr. Mantis Shrimp, Chiquitita, and Taro all join the fight. What follows is one of the most visually stunning and well-executed battle sequences the series has offered so far. Seiko makes sure to give some very hard hits on Jiji, and the fight finally comes to an end when Taro captures Jiji inside him.
Dandadan Season 2 Episode 5 Review
The episode opens with Seiko, Manjiro, Mr. Mantis Shrimp, Chiquitita, Momo, and Okarun attending a ritual that is being held for Jiji and Evil Eye. They pray and pray so that the spirit of the Evil Eye leaves Jiji, but nothing really happens. Evil Eye persists, and we get to know how powerful this entity truly is. He is a mountain spirit who only latches onto someone spiritually strong, like Jiji. So it is highly unlikely that the Evil Eye will leave Jiji for good.
However, we get to know that there is one way in which Jiji can function normally without making the Evil Eye come out. Whenever he gets splashed with hot water, Jiji becomes human, and whenever he gets sprayed or even touched by cold water, Evil Eye takes over. This is a very peculiar situation, and Seiko makes sure that not a single drop of cold water reaches Jiji.
But this episode was not all about Jiji, as we see a very prominent growth in the relationships between the characters. Aira gets a massive character development, and she does not come off as an annoying attention seeker anymore. She also develops a very apparent friendship with Momo, which is very endearing to watch.
However, perhaps the part that especially captivated me is the gradual maturation of romantic feelings between Momo and Okarun. In this episode, it becomes very clear that they have a crush on each other, and they are not even trying to hide it anymore. I really hope they get to confess as soon as possible because this is one of the most wholesome relationships in shonen anime.
But that was not all, as we also get to see a very interesting villain’s addition to the cast. The Kito family, which we previously thought was creepy, was far more sinister than we originally knew. But yes, right now, the only thing that matters is the betterment of Jiji.
Verdict
I love today’s episode even though it did not have huge fights or leave a prominent impact on the overall story. I absolutely loved the moment between Momo and Okarun and really felt my heart swell with the way their affection was shown.
