Under a Dark Sun Ending Explained
After receiving a confusing email asking her to join a flower-picking farm, runaway single mother Alba makes her way to this confusing employment opportunity that provides a rather lucrative venture for herself and her son. However, when the patriarch finds out about her criminal past, she is sacked the very day and, in a shocking twist, finds Arnaud dead and, during an attempt to run away with her son, is caught and arrested. Soon, however, she gets help from Manon, who gets her out of the station and warns her to be careful.
Out of prison and a very dangerous attempt to end her life, Alba decides to take matters into her own hands and go up against Beatrice, who, she is sure, is after everything. Beatrice, meanwhile, tries to win the war against Alba by pitting Leo against her, but it doesn’t work. As Alba’s dark past comes to light, her portion of the rose garden goes up in flames, and people start to point fingers at her even more.

As the police fixate on her, Leo finds a gun and hands it to Manon, in a shocking twist. Meanwhile, Mathieu and Lucie butt heads about who controls the farm. In a bid to figure out who killed Arnaud, Alba sneaks into Mathieu’s truck and finds a mysterious spot that he had travelled to in the middle of the night and decides to figure out what it is. There, she and Valentin find a dilapidated building with a secret underground compartment, with a disturbing room full of snuff films and live feeds from the house.
They realise that they are being watched and rush out, only to be caught by one of the police officers, Lucas, who promptly gets shot. In a bid to survive, Alba drops the snuff film CD. Back at home, she gets the devastating news that Leo has decided to live with his grandfather, while Beatrice tells her kids that she is marrying Jacques. As Alba gets ready to tell the police everything, she gets a threatening text, while Leo is abducted after he and his grandfather are forced into a car accident.
With her son now kidnapped, Alba is blackmailed by this mysterious person, who tells her to kill Jacques. After jumping through a hundred hoops, she is finally able to save Leo, but, surprisingly, with a little help from Beatrice. Afterwards, Mathieu and Lucie forcefully institutionalise Beatrice while Leo, Noor and Alba are kidnapped by Valentin.
Who killed Arnaud?

In a surprising twist, it turns out that Valentin was the one who killed Arnaud in Under a Dark Sun episode 5. He was running a perverted sex operation where he assaulted women and sold the videos to make some money. Arnaud found out about it, and he had to kill him to save himself. However, Alba later admits to Manon that there’s someone else behind this situation and that Valentin was simply a pawn.
What happens in the end?
In episode 5, Alba decides to figure out who her mother is – that is the only way she would be able to find out the truth behind this mystery. She finds the employee records and is able to find pictures. She goes straight to Mathieu to question her about the picture, who looks visibly shaken. Eventually, we see the pictures that left Alba shocked – it’s of Mathieu and his lover. As it turns out, Arnaud got Mathieu’s lover pregnant and then got rid of her. After learning about it, Mathieu killed Arnaud.

But, that’s not the truth – in a truly bizarre twist, Mathieu tells Alba that she is his daughter. Confused and angry, he promises that he didn’t set her up, nor did he kill Arnaud. Confused, she gets a call from Beatrice, who asks her to come to the institution and meet her mother in room 102, but once there, she finds Beatrice’s dead body.

Meanwhile, at the mental institution, Beatrice finds Mathieu’s ex-wife, Josephine, as a patient, forced to stay like her. Elsewhere, Lucie breaks down and confesses to her boyfriend that she had seen Mathieu with a flower picker and overheard him telling her that she would divorce Josephine to be with her. However, considering Josephine had inherited a lot of money and invested a lot, she couldn’t let that happen, and after telling Arnaud, she disappeared, presumably sent to the mental health institution.
So, what is the truth?
In Under a Dark Sun episode 6, we learn that Nadia, having left her life in the fields behind, has turned it around. It turns out that she had given birth to her daughter, and Arnaud had forced her to give her up. But, after years, she has decided to give her daughter what she deserves and blackmailed Arnaud to do so. In the present, Alba breaks into Josephine’s room to talk to her about Nadia, but doesn’t learn anything new.

However, when Manon arrives to see her mother, they find the book that she had given Hadrien, and Alba realises that Hadrien is the one who killed Arnaud after finding out what he did to his mother, and he has blamed Alba for causing all this mess. As she rushes out of the clinic with Manon, she tells Alba the truth – it’s not Hadrien but her who has been plotting all of this.
She causes the car to crash, and they limp back home to see Hadrien dead, killed by Leo. Manon threatens to expose Leo and put him in prison, but Alba tells her that she will mention that Hadrien is the killer. Manon doesn’t agree, but she doesn’t have a choice. Months later, the estate goes up for sale, and the buyer asks the family to convene.
In the last scene, the buyer turns out to be Nadia and Alba can’t help but smile.
