Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 4 Review

Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 3 Recap

The episode opens by shedding light on Team A’s underlying issues. The team’s dynamics are mismanaged, with a skewed power structure that causes tension among the top players. Two of the strongest players are locked in a power struggle, constantly clashing on the court, which leaves the rest of the team struggling to follow their lead. This discord allows their opponents to exploit the team’s weaknesses. Fortunately, Isagi identifies this flaw and decides to turn it into an opportunity for their own growth.

This is also a pivotal moment for Isagi, as he steps into his strategist role and elevates the game, helping Team A build momentum. During this time, Rin and Hiori’s coordination catches the opposing team’s attention, and they work to counter it, recognizing it as the team’s strongest link. Meanwhile, Karasu keeps a close watch on Isagi, determined to prevent him from utilizing the team members effectively.

Isagi notices Nanase’s potential and cleverly uses him as a decoy. With Rin and Shidou being exceptional players, the other team members are more average, making it easier for them to follow Isagi’s guidance rather than the stars. However, even though Isagi’s strategy improves their performance, it doesn’t make him stand out as an individual—he’s supporting the team’s success rather than claiming the spotlight. Yet, his potential to rise and excel reveals itself best when he’s backed into a corner.

Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 4 Review

In today’s episode, the highlight shifted to Reo and Nagi’s relationship, where a dejected Reo still chases after his best friend. In the beginning, we see Isagi looking back at his playing videos, analysing what he did that made him take the last shot. He is not quite sure about what went through his head, but one thing is clear to him; at that moment, he thought, analysed and acted all at once. If he can make this a habit of his, then it can become a great weapon for him in future matches.

But now, it is time for the next match, where Reo and Nagi’s team will play against Rin’s team. Throughout the match, there is only one thing in Reos mind, and it is to become someone who will finally be acknowledged by Nagi. We dive deep into his thoughts and understand where his obsession comes from.

Growing up in a very privileged household, Reo could get whatever he wanted. He was even good at everything from studies to extracurricular activities and was considered a prodigy who would later inherit his father’s massive business. However, when he saw how a selected few can become the best in football and attain a level of fame and success that is unmatched, he wanted to become one of them as well.

Sadly, this is a field where only talent for the game speaks, and Reo is a Jack of all trades but a master of none. He is a very balanced player who can take on every role in the field but can execute them only at a decent level. When he comes in front of a very talented player like Rin, the difference in talent between them decides the result of the match. Hence, in this episode, Reo goes on a journey to elevate himself to a level where he becomes a master of everything.

Verdict

I liked this episode as it revolves around a character who does not really get that much attention among all the star players of this show. The animation is, as usual, bad and choppy, but let us just live with it. If you can get past the animation, you should like this episode.
