Spice and Wolf Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 9 was sad to watch for many reasons. Let us see if you should watch the 9th episode below.

Spice and Wolf Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 8 Recap

Spice and Wolf Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 9 Review Lawrence Is In Deep Trouble

The episode kicks off with the introduction of a mysterious character who leaves a significant impact on the protagonists. This character is Nora, a shepherd adept at warding off werewolves with the aid of her well-trained dog. Despite misconceptions that paint her as a pagan sorcerer, causing people to avoid her path, Nora is simply a shepherd intent on her work.

From the start, the anime highlights the persecution faced by followers of the Pagan religion at the hands of the church. The church executes those who don’t conform to its doctrines and encourages the hunting of werewolves like Holo. This presents a particular challenge for Lawrence, as the town he’s heading to is known for its strict religious practices and extreme beliefs.

Given the chance to hire Nora as a bodyguard for the remainder of his journey, Lawrence readily accepts, much to Holo’s displeasure. Holo feels uneasy about Nora’s presence and is also jealous of the attention Lawrence pays her. This situation leads to some endearing banter between Lawrence and Holo, further developing their relationship.

Spice and Wolf Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 9 Review and Recap

Today’s episode was a heartbreaking one, as Lawrence and Holo find themselves again in deep waters. Lawrence is in a new town trying out his new business idea, where he will sell his very valuable set of armour at a high price. He is pretty hopeful about it and is excited to make a huge profit as well. Not only that, he is a bit too excited, and perhaps this is also why, he loses track of many things, which he should have taken into consideration.

Apparently, the armour that he bought, is on loan money, and he must make a considerable profit to pay his debt. However, when he goes to sell them, he makes a shocking discovery. He has been duped and betrayed by his own people. These armours are of no value at all and the information he received has been a lie. Lawrence is in very big trouble and he has less than three days to pay back the entirety of his loan amount.

Time and time again, Lawrence has proved that even though he is a very skilled merchant, he is also prone to making mistakes. When he was bragging about cracking down the road to success by doing business with loans, Holo even comments that debt might not be a good scenario. But he dismisses her. However, we can’t fully blame him as business is in itself a very risky profession. You never know when you might face success, and when you might taste defeat.

By the end of this episode, you can see how visibly distraught Lawrence is and is in shock that he has been set up. You could see that all the positivity he usually carries is draining out from his body, making him desperate for a miracle. Hopefully, things will be better for him soon.

Verdict

This episode was nice but also sad because our hero managed to land himself in trouble again. But I believe Holo will be able to drag him out of this misery as well. So I’m very excited to watch what happens in the next episode.
