Bucchigiri Episode 10 Review: Matakara Is On His Villain Era

Bucchigiri Episode 10 Review: Another episode has dropped from this unusual anime, and I was pleasantly surprised with the shift in Matakara’s character. Read ahead to find out more.

Bucchigiri Episode 10 Overview

Bucchigiri?! is a new anime series and an original anime from MAPPA, the studio behind popular shows like Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen. It’s set to premiere this January, so it’s just around the corner!

The series is described as a return to the delinquent/Yanki genre of anime, which was popular in the late 90s and early 2000s with shows like Cromartie High School and Great Teacher Onizuka.

Under the direction of Hiroko Utsumi and the story of Taku Kishimoto, the series also consists of the musical composition of Michiru Ōshima, while character designs are by Takahiro Kagami.

The opening theme, “Sesame” by Kroi, sets the tone, and the ending theme will be Love je t’aime (らぶじゅてーむ)” by Mahiru Coda (甲田まひる).

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Bucchigiri Episode 10 Review and Recap: Arajin Is Finally Concerned

Bucchigiri Episode 10 Review Matakara Is On His Villain Era

Things are definitely more interesting than it was ever before for this anime. We are finally seeing one of the best and softest boys on the show being an absolute menace to everyone around him. Matakara has finally shed the image of a good boy and has gone on a rampage, and honestly, I appreciate this as a necessary change in the plotline. At first, Matakara was too timid and polite for his own good. He was strong and an absolute force to be reckoned with, but at the same time, he was a pushover, with blind faith in his very incompetent friend Arajin.

But now that he is psychologically damaged, because of the loss of his beloved brother, Ichiya could brainwash Matakara pretty nicely. Now, Matakara is way too engrossed in his fear of the unknown black smoke-like figure to understand what is happening to him. He starts to believe, being ruthless is the only way out. Hence, to escape from his fear, he begins to antagonise others without even seeing who is a friend and who is a foe.

He is also completely devoid of any emotion he felt towards his friend and is now almost cold-blooded. Even Matakara’s comrades from Minato Kai do not understand what is going on with him and are heavily concerned about him. But Matakara is not entirely lost. You could see that he has some sense about what he is doing, it’s just that he is far too gone to stop now.

At the beginning of this episode, we also got to know about the reason why Senya and Ichiya chose Arajin and Matakara as their hosts. And, understanding all this, Arajin is finally concerned about the whole scenario, and maybe he will be able to do something in the next episode.

But what surprised me here was the last fight, whose conclusion I seriously did not expect. The action scenes were very nicely animated, and the choreography was also very well thought out.

Verdict

Today’s episode was definitely one of the best because it finally deviated from Arajin’s failed romances towards a darker storyline. I believe we can finally expect things to be way more intense and fierce.

Hopefully, Arajin will come to his senses and realise he’s the only one who can actually stop Matakara from going absolutely crazy. But what we are guaranteed to witness, is some great fight scenes between the two friends.
