Young Royals Season 3 Episode 6 Review [No Spoilers]

In episode 5, we left off with Simon breaking up with Wilhelm, mentioning that love shouldn’t be this difficult. We pick up right after and a shocking news honestly breaks our hearts right when the episode starts, making us question Simon and Wilhelm’s fate together. Are they really going to break up? Is there no happy ending for our cute couple?

As questions swirl in our minds, it’s clear that Young Royals was determined to end this episode by bringing all the relationships full circle. The way the relationships are dealt with feels a bit rushed and sudden and the tone feels a bit off. I mean, I know we need to say goodbye, but it doesn’t have to rush to bid farewell to the different relationships in the fashion that we are made to.

Young Royals Season 3 Episode 6

It’s oddly heartbreaking for the audience to feel goodbye as well and throughout the runtime, there’s a heavy sadness in the air that looms over our heads. As they say goodbye to Hillerska, we also say goodbye to these boys who are going through a lot. Despite the rushed last episode, I really enjoyed the happy tone and ending, giving us much to be desired but still making our hearts happy. Is it the perfect ending? Not really. But it’s happy and that’s all that matters. However, it does leave us wanting more from the series which maybe another episode would’ve helped.

This one-episode release, however, made me wonder why we were made to wait for this. I get that they need people to tune in for the last episode and all, but it doesn’t show much new and optimists would’ve already figured out what’s about to happen after the last five episodes.

Weird choices aside, it’s bittersweet to say goodbye as Young Royals leaves you with a smile on your face.

Young Royals Season 3 Episode 6 Recap [SPOILERS]

Young Royals Season 3 Episode 6

Young Royals Season 3 finale starts with both Wilhelm and Simon going through the motions of their breakup. As news comes in that the school will be closing down from that day onwards, the students arrange a fest to commemorate their last days in school. During the party, Wilhelm and August also bury the hatchet and say their apologies to each other, finally realising that things are coming to an end and they should end on a good note. Meanwhile, Felice and Sara also make their amends after the latter finally opens up about her love for her as a friend and Felice tells her what Sara’s friendship means to her.

While Wilhelm and Simon continue to awkwardly eye each other, August excitedly catches up to Sara and excitedly tells her how they can keep on meeting up after he graduates. Unfortunately, she breaks up with him, leaving him completely heartbroken. In the end, Simon makes the first move and takes Wilhelm to the lakeside to spend some time together.

Later on, after the school closes for the semester (and probably forever) Wilhelm’s parents also make a surprise visit and his mother apologises for not being there for him, resulting in a tearful and happy reunion.

Young Royals Season 3 Episode 6

As everyone bids goodbye, Wilhelm goes after Simon and thanks him for his birthday present and Simon tells him that he gave up on the royal family but not on their relationship. Wilhelm says goodbye to Simon, realising that he cannot leave his duties for his love. On the other hand, Felice decides to stay with Sara instead of going to New York.

In the car, Wilhelm asks his mother what would happen if he doesn’t want to become a king because no one had a choice in this life and so it’s not a life that he wants. His clarity of thought moves his mother as he mentions that August will make for a better king than him. He then runs out of the car and after Simon’s car. Wilhelm tells a stunned Simon that he has given up being a king and his family is okay with it. He further mentions that he wants to be with Simon and the two tearfully embrace happily.

We get a flashback of their moments together as the two kiss and go off with Felice and Sara.

Netflix’s Ladies First arrives with a provocative premise and a talented cast, but the gender-swap comedy struggles to deliver sharp satire.
