NewJeans Get Up Album Review by Netizens: Cinematic Era Has “Bunnies” Sipping Tea and Chanting “What’s Your ETA”

HYBE Labels really hit the jackpot after the rookie South Korean girl group’s debut in 2022 under their banner. All those starry behind-the-scene moments have led up to the grand premiere of the group’s latest release, which is only reeling in positively enthusiastic NewJeans Get Up album reviews from the Twitterati!

Initially having got lost in the uproar of the album being dipped in a possible controversy, the new comeback of ADOR’s quintet has now emerged victorious and rebuffed all those claims, letting their final musical output do the talking for the members – Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. Releasing on July 21, 2023, both the second extended play of the group, and its ultimate leading single ETA‘s music video have delivered a brand new entertaining experience for fans and non-fans of the group alike.

The album consists of six songs – New Jeans, Super Shy, ETA, Cool With You, Get Up and ASAP. Out of these, three of them (ETA, Super Shy and Cool With You) are considered the title tracks of the comeback and have received their respective music video premieres as well. Other than that, the group had also released a video for New Jeans on July 7 (KST) in collaboration with the Powerpuff Girls franchise.

As of July 21, Twitter is trickling with nothing but praise for the group, especially owing to their particular adoption of a cinematic identity this era. Cool With You‘s MV featured special appearances by iconic actors like Squid Game‘s Jung Ho-yeon and the popular Wong Kar Wai films’ actor Tony Leung, who’s possibly better acquainted to the Gen-Z due to his presence in Marvel’s Shang-Chi.

All the music videos released so far have pulled up with strong narratives, which have in turn intrigued the audiences. Today’s premiere of the ETA music video has again fuelled the conversation with more appreciation for the artists who’ve also partnered with Apple and drawn up a PPL (Product Placement) for iPhone 14 in their video. Featuring a love-and-hate concept on the MV has turned in the favour of the members’ growth as it has also helped promote their acting chops. The story follows the girls finding out that their friend Eva’s boyfriend Mikael has been cheating on her and they follow his tracks to “catch him in 4K”, as the Gen-Z often refers to the endeavour.

The partnership with Apple has clearly worked its magic for the tech giant as well and had Twitter users leaving tweets like “this whole mv is so cutesy / srsly abt to purchase a iphone 14 atp”. Many even turned up to discuss the latest video’s storyline, and bringing it all together with the previous MVss beauty, the fans have easily been won over by “the cinematography of newjeans ‘get up’ era”, and are also calling them “the best gg out there”. All the songs on the EP channel an easy-going tonality, which has appealed to the listeners, r reeling in messages like, “Anyways the album did not disappoint and love it so much”.

Some others also pointed out how Get Up‘s audio length is quite short, and they need a full version for it ASAP (very much pun-intended). Bunnies, aka the group’s fanbase, have loved the “epic comeback” through and through, and have left warm-hearted congratulatory wishes for the five girls on their successful return to the K-pop charts. While some fans have tried their best to come up with a ranking of their favourite tracks on the album, others simply just couldn’t choose between them as they’ve been consumed by the musicality of all six songs.
