Cool With You MV: NewJeans Ropes in Jung Ho-yeon’s Cupid to Make a Statement

Building up the repertoire for their upcoming mini-album, this will be their third single with a video of it. Joined by Super Shy and New Jeans, the Cool With You MV has now dropped as well. According to the release schedule video, we see that every song will receive its music video, and so far, we have seen three of them. While the ASAP teaser has been released, there hasn’t been any inkling as to when it will be arriving on YouTube.

This will be their second extended play, and it is titled Get Up. We see the teaser for the album, which is shaped like a Powerpuff Girls arcade visual with five girls flying in and out of the screen. The music is once again incredibly soothing and soft, their voices overlap each other pretty well. Jung Ho-yeon gives her performance with the intensity we can clearly see on her face.

A still from the MV

There is already so much story within the first few seconds itself, we see a woman (Ho-yeon) walking away from two people, and it seems like she has the power of Cupid. She keeps the passionate energy at full throttle at all times. But when she meets this guy who doesn’t enact his desires for the woman Cupid placed next to him, she becomes fascinated by his behaviour and follows him around everywhere, trying to make some sense of why he had been acting that way.

However, even when she is always next to him, he never sees her because she is a being not to be seen. Even in the mirror, there is no reflection. She leaves his place and runs down to the ground, where she stands there while the rain throttles her at full strength. In the open defiance of an entity unseen, she asks for a boon, and it seems that it has been granted. Off to the B Side now.

We see our protagonist absolutely drenched in the rain. She is trying to wash away all the things that make her unseen. When she goes back up to the guy’s apartment, we see them both have a lot of fun. They start dating and building the kind of intimacy only lovers can build with each other. We see home videos, some travelling vlogs and most of all, a comfort that cannot be erased. In the middle, we see a painting of her that seems to be complete, but it seems that it will become the linchpin for the next few videos.

When the two of them are on the opposite sides of the crosswalk, Tony Leung (yes, you’re not hallucinating), reveals himself behind Ho-yeon’s love interest. The two of them have a soundless face-off, and it seems like she has done something she wasn’t supposed to, and now her punishment is to see her lover pursue someone else right in front of her while not even glancing her way once. Of all the ways, the music video would end, we see Ho-yeon make her way to the dancer, ending NewJeans Cool With You part of the song.

Fans were incredibly excited to see the cameos in the music video. The fact that it seemed more like a movie than a music video definitely worked for the artists. Adding to that, most of them were incredibly inspired by the choreography that took away some of the emotional weight from Ho-yeon and transferred it to her co-stars. Even though the actors definitely took the stage, listeners are still excited to see the singers make their mark in the video, see below for what they’re saying.
