The whole pack is back for a brand new elimination round packed with surprises. As soon as the 15 contestants entered the room, they saw 50 clotches, wondering what could be under them. The judges then announced that for the day’s elimination round, a guest chef is appearing, who is none other than the first ever winner of MasterChef Australia, Julie Goodwin.

Julie Goodwin became the first home cook to win the title back in 2009, defeating chef, Poh Ling Yeow. Since then, she has been active in the cooking world by writing many cookbooks, coming live on radios, televisions and more. Apart from being a cook, she is a wonderful wife, mother and granny.

Julie is well-known for her expertise in seafood and for the day’s elimination challenge, she came prepared with one. The judges announced the day’s test that all fifteen of the contestants must taste Julie’s seafood stew and guess the ingredients she has used in it. Five of the contestants who fail to identify will move to the elimination round.

The contestants then picked a number randomly and as per the number, they stood in order and answered. Grace got the number fifteen leaving her to stand at the last. Since the first few people said the easy ingredients, the last few contestants were left with the hard guesses. Out of the them all, Antonio, Robbie, Declan, Rue and Jessica failed to guess correctly.

The rest of the contestants were saved and they all moved to the gantry. This is when another surprise was opened. Previously, Larissa was eliminated. But she had the second chance apron. So, she also joined the five cooks to fight for her chance. The judges then said that the six contestants must make a dish using only what’s on the counter behind them (the fifty ingredients used by Julie). They won’t have access to the pantry or the garden. The timer started and the cooks went ahead with their preparation.

Jessica decided to go with Pasta since she is really good at it. But just when she was 70% done with it, the judges who came to check on all contestants revealed to her that the ingredient wasn’t a plain flour but bread flour. Jessica became highly stressed but decided to go with what she made.

The moment came where the five had to present their dishes. Robbie’s seafood stew was on-point and the judges totally loved it. They also appreciated how at the age of 65 his cooking passion is so strong. One by one others came in with their dish. Out of them all, Jessica’s preparation failed to impress them.

The judges then revealed the top two dish of the day which is Robbie’s and Larissa’s. The two of them were saved and Larissa got back her white apron. Then the judges announced that Jessica’s dish didn’t work out. They all bid the talented cook a good farewell.

MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 10 Review: Final Thoughts

Is it really fair to have a taste and tell test to select the cooks to battle in the elimination round? Absolutely not. Taste buds differ and this has nothing to do with proving their skills. All of them should have made a dish and members with the least favoured meal should have been moved to the second round.

Certain contestants guessed ingredients like water, salt, oil— Aren’t these ingredients too obvious? Indeed the contestants who were saved got the spot out of luck and not skill.
