Netflix is back again with another standup special, and this time it is the Australian comics’ turn to shine in Hannah Gadsby Something Special. The comic has been extremely prolific in their field and even won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special, awarded to their special Nanette. They also have an honorary doctorate from the University of Tasmania. This special will be directed by their partner Jenney Shamash.
Hannah Gadsby Something Special Synopsis
The Peabody and Emmy award-winning comedian is back in this special to tell us stories that would make us feel good. While this may come as a shock to most fans, the trailer maintains that the show will be feel good and will aspire to be as wholesome as possible. Even when they made a sly remark, “Or, is it?” In this special, they explore the fact that they got married, showing off the ring to the audience with the most gratifying grin on their face.

In their own words, they explain that this show is going to be a romantic comedy, and they seem to be appalled by the notion, even remarking, “Yucky,” to cement just how out of the blue this whole ordeal is for them. Meanwhile, they do explain that they didn’t follow the tradition when it came to proposing marriage because they absolutely cannot kneel. After three knee construction surgeries, they realised that dating men was probably not going to work.
Now that they are married to their partner, they tell stories together as a unit, or couple stories as they call it. And while they both have had separate experiences for the same incident, their partner will likely comment with an expletive followed by a question that completely uproots both their grasps on reality. They reiterate once again that this special will be feel good. They will feel good about themselves for this one hour before the audience goes back into the world again, being the mass extinction event that they are.

There is a small bunny hanging around the stage that the comic hasn’t addressed in the trailer as of now, but the title card for the special contains a subtle nod to this rabbit, giving the idea that the comic may defer to it at some point and deliver an explosive set before coming back to the romantic comedy they had promised the audience. Filmed at the Sydney Opera House, this will be the third special on Netflix by the comedian.
