15 Hollywood Divas Who Looked Resplendent in Sarees Like Zendaya and Gigi Hadid!

The pink carpet at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) opening saw stars from all over the world step out in their best attires, while some even chose to dress the part at the Indian exhibit by opting for traditional choices like sarees and lehenga. Zendaya and Gigi Hadid are just two Hollywood divas who looked resplendent in sarees. And while this launch may have piqued our interest in the classic Indian attire, there are numerous past events that saw many other Hollywood stars rocking the saree look. Let’s take a look at some of them below.

Hollywood Divas Who Looked Resplendent in Sarees

1. Zendaya

Zendaya has always pulled off her fashion red carpet looks with ease. As a result, all eyes were peeled to see what she would put on for the opening nights at NMACC in Mumbai, India. And as we’d all expected and hoped for, she walked out as a starry dream in her hand embroidered ‘Verdure’ saree gown designed by Rahul Mishra. The custom look was further complimented by the ‘Flying Cranes’ bralette that went along as the saree’s blouse. The long trailing saree blessed us all with yet another dreamland-worthy Zendaya fashion moment.

2. Gigi Hadid

Draping the “masterpiece” designed by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, as Hadid calls it herself, the American model walked out on the second day of the NMACC opening. As detailed by the designer, the “Kamasutra-inspired, South Indian temple jewellery cropped sleeve jacket blouse” endows her with a divine energy, making her look like a warrior princess, especially since the gold-decked blouse also assumes the vision as that of an armour. Exuding a goddess-like aura, the model’s fashion choice definitely won the crowds over and easily became one of the best looks of the night.

3. Lady Gaga

In 2011, Lady Gaga personified confidence and style by donning the cream-shade sensual draped saree designed by Tarun Tahiliani. The Indian outfits shimmer and its star-studded embellishments of Swarovski crystals became one with the actress’ enigma, and got added to her life-long catalog of fashion experiments. She wore the saree with a cut-out corset fore her first performance in Delhi, India.

4. Ashley Judd

Judd looked the part and owned the Indian style when she gracefully stepped out for the YouthAIDS Benefit Gala (2007) in her silk purple saree with a suitable partner accessory – a bindi.

5. Paris Hilton

Putting on a bling look, Hilton arrived in Mumbai in 2011 to promote her band of luxury bags. She put on the silver embellished Tarun Tahiliani saree that sparked hints of Swarovski crystals on it for a special photoshoot. This is not all. In 2022, she once again started down for a photoshoot with a leading Indian fashion magazine. For this event too, she took on the opportunity to wear a Manish Malhotra creation. The heavy-sequined pink saree had barbiecore written all over it’s design.

She also completed her look with a tiny blue bindi. Moreover, this is not the only time she’s worn the Indian wear. Teh Pussycat Dolls singer also took the 2008 Fashion Rocks concert by storm along with her fellow group members, all of who wore the same black-golden saree, but differently styled.

9. Julia Roberts

Falling for the traditional Indian attire, the “Pretty Woman” gladly draped herself in a teal-shade Kanjeevaram saree for her 2010 film Eat Pray Love.

10. Selena Gomez

11. Katherine Heigl

Fans of quintessential romantic comedies are likely to remember Katherin Heigl’s 2008 feel good movie 27 Dresses wherein she revealed a closet-full of bridesmaids’ dresses that she’d saved and preserved over the years as her mementos. One of those dresses also happened to be our favourite Indian traditional fit of an orange and pink saree, sporting which she looked sweeter than ever, and made us swoon over her adorable charms that were further accentuated in the Indian dress.

12. Victoria Beckham

13. Naomi Campbell

14. Chrissy Teigen

Departing from her usual western choices, the American model switched lanes with the label Papa Don’t Preach’s draped saree for Priyanka Chopra, and her husband Nick Jonas’ Diwali celebrations hosted in 2021. With silver sequins and heavy embellishments, her purple saree was the perfect fit for a night of Indian festivities. Moreover, her idea of going the distance to make it feel all the more authentically-desi with heavy earrings and mango tikka made her whole look a sight for sore eyes.

15. Meghan Markle

Years ago, Meghan Markle paid a visit to Indian for her charity work, and she did so by assimilating with the Indian crowd by putting on a green and blue saree. The then Suits actress beautifully and gracefully became one with the Indian women as she kept her look completely simple with a bindi on a her forehead.
