March 24, 2023, has brought home a glorious victory for EXO’s Kai, granting him the Rover 1st win and his first win as a soloist. Having made his solo debut in November 2020 with his RnB self-titled mini album, he recently made his latest comeback with his third mini album, Rover, led by the titular track.
On March 13, 2023, the music video for the leading single and the album dropped on various platforms. Since then, the artist has been spreading the word about his new comeback and promoting it by partaking in dance challenges with several other artists from SM Entertainment – his own company, and more. All that hard work has now surfaced with a fruitful result for him as today’s broadcast of KBS World’s TV’s Music Bank has ranked his song as the number one pick of the week.
Music Bank is a South Korean music program wherein the hosts count down the hottest tracks of the week, and this Friday’s broadcast had TWICE’s Set Me Free and Kai’s Rover up against each other as the top two finalists for the big trophy. Emotions overcame the latter singer on stage as his name was announced as the week’s top pick.
Despite having been in the industry for eleven years, the singer was left teary-eyed as this triumph marked his first win as a soloist in the music scene. Apart from the milestones he’s achieved as an EXO member, he’s also previously won an award as an actor and a variety star. However, as expected, this one hit him hard in the feels. In his short speech following the win, Kai, or Kim Jong-in, expressed how he hadn’t expected to win first place, so he had yet to prepare his winning speech. Ultimately, he thanked the fans of his K-pop group, known as EXO-Ls.

He was even congratulated by his group’s leader, Suho, who took to his Instagram story to congratulate his fellow member upon witnessing his win during the live broadcast on television. Jrick Baek, one of the dance choreographers of the latest music video, also celebrated the singer’s win on his Instagram story.
