The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 3: The Convert

The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 3, although it starts where the last episode left off- in the darkness of the Living Waters, it has much less to do with Din, Bo-Katan and Grogu than it has to do with Dr. Penn Pershing and his companion, G68. With that being said, the initial half of the episode is dedicated to our lone Mandalorian’s redemption arc as is the end.

We have seen that Bo-Katan saved Din Djarin from the attacks of the ancient Mandalorian legend-beast. However, what concerns Din more is not the creature but, the fact that his dip in the Living Waters is very much proof and evidence that he was on a mission and does redeem his status as a Mandalorian.

And even though it feels like the legendary beast must not have much of a part to play, the fact that Din hides it from the former Mandalorian Regent is enough proof that we will see more of it or that aspect of the story in the future. Because come on, if we found a legendary lost creature, we would let the world, or at least ‘our people’, know, right?

The other segment of The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 3 concerns Dr. Penn Pershing, who has been granted his freedom due to his association with the Amnesty Program helmed by the New Republic. As we all remember, the expertise of Dr. Pershing lies in cloning and we can assume with the number of stormtroopers that the entire fandom has seen across all films and shows of this franchise, it is only a relevant field to work on.

During this, Dr. Pershing meets many delegates one of them being G68, who used to work under Moff Gideon once upon a time. They hit it off in one go and Pershing soon starts to share his thoughts, ideas and aspirations with his new companion. What he remains unaware of until the end is the capacity of betrayal that he would face from a place that has given him a new breath of air.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 3: Final Thoughts

A common verdict by everyone on The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 3 has to be that the show is really doing well as it is playing with new characters and narratives while keeping the old ones alive. Pershing and G68’s entry in the scene and their entire storyline are surely heading somewhere and are going to contribute to the bigger picture.

This might even remind one of how multiple plotlines in Andor just seamlessly blend into each other gradually to give us one of the best shows by the franchise. Some would even argue that it did beat The Mandalorian at some levels.
