My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 17 Review- Wrong Way To Stop A Fire

Enji Todoroki is not a good man. He has made a lot of mistakes in the past, several of which have been well near unforgivable. He has been the cause of the estrangement of his family and is rightfully despised by everyone who has had the misfortune of knowing him closely. He has sacrificed everything and everyone close to him in his pursuit to become the #1 Hero, and only after achieving that goal has he realised how futile this endeavour (ha) was. However, even this man isn’t above redemption and deserves a second chance at life after coming to his senses.

My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 17 had been a long time coming. We knew that the Todoroki family was as messed up as families got, but we didn’t know the extent of that. We always put all the blame on Endeavor, but his personality right now contrasted so much from what the cruel dictator the stories made him seem like that you just knew something else was going on behind the scenes. All that is to say, no matter how twisted, Endeavor had his reasons to do what he did with Dabi. In fact, how he treated Shoto was much worse and came across as much more unforgivable.

But, there was still a method to the madness. How he started on this path was wrong, but the things he chose to do to Dabi that made him act out were for his own good. The show did a fantastic job of creating this situation where all parties seemed to be doing their best to deal with a crappy situation. You can see yourself from the point of view of any of these characters, whether it be Enji, Rie, or Toya, and see yourself reacting to the situation similarly. That’s what made the scenes so heartbreaking and effective.

The one character who has been surprisingly not very involved with this story as much as one would expect was Shoto, and My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 17 put a swift and to that. He was front and centre here because of the resentment Dabi had for him and how he was treated by his parents. It needs to be said that he is a remarkably stable person despite all this and is someone who has had one of the best character arcs in the entire show. His future is very interesting, and I expect a lot from him.

The involvement of Hawks and Best Jeanist in My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 17 also made a lot of sense and served as a great way to cap things off in a positive manner. They also served as the catalysts for what is going to lead to wider knowledge of the show’s best-kept secrets so far- the relationship between Deku, All Might, and One For All. A lot rides on this particular plotline, which will possibly be one of the biggest turning points we have had so far in the show. Let’s just hope the writers make it seem worth it.
Verdict
My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 17 was an emotional journey that left the Todoroki family story bow out in a hopeful and positive manner while still leaving a lot in the tank.
