The major talk of the town recently has been about Oscars 2023. It has been a great year for Indian cinema as, after many years, it is finally receiving its overdue recognition from the Academy. The country’s diversity is showcased as movies of different languages and regions have been shortlisted for the award ceremony.
Multiple Indian movies have also recently become eligible for nominations at the Oscars this year. In a long list of over 301 feature films, around 4-5 Indian movies have grabbed a position in the Reminder List.

Where to Watch Indian Shortlisted Movies in Oscars 2023
RRR
Directed by S. S. Rajamouli, RRR is one of the biggest commercially successful Indian movies. It received immense love and positive feedback not just from the Indian Film Industry but also from the global film fraternity. This film has set the bar for cinematography and the use of VFX in Indian movies.
Starring N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris, the plot of the movie centres around two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao). The film has been shortlisted in two categories for the award ceremony, Best Music (Original Song) and Best Picture.

Chhello Show (Last Film Show)
Chhello Show is a coming-of-age Indian Gujrati movie. Directed by Pan Nalin, the film stars Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval and Paresh Mehta. The plot centres around a nine-year-old Samay and his journey to becoming a filmmaker. The film has been shortlisted for Best International Feature Film in the 2023 Academy Awards.

The Elephant Whisperers
The real-life story of Bomman and Bellie, who dedicated their lives to raising an orphaned baby elephant named Raghu, touched everyone’s hearts. Directed and developed by Kartiki Gonsalves, the movie is shortlisted for Best Documentary Short Film at the Oscars 2023. The film showcases the beauty of South India and how both humans and animals coexist.

All That Breathes
Directed by Shaunak Sen, the documentary is about two young men living in New Delhi and their attempt to help a bird known as Black Kite to survive. The story is mainly about the polluted air that surrounds the city and the violence that has been escalating over the years. The docu-film has been shortlisted for Best Documentary Feature in the 2023 Academy Awards.
All That Breathes will soon be available to stream on HBO Max.
Various other Indian films have also been listed under the Oscars contender list. However, it does not guarantee a nomination, but there is a high possibility. The selected movies are Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files, Sanjay Leena Bhansali’s movie Gangubai Kathiawadi, R. Madhavan’s Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, and Kantara.
The Academy will be releasing the upcoming nominations on January 24, 2023. It is expected that more Indian movies will be nominated for the award ceremony. The Academy Awards will be premiering on March 12, 2023.
