Burning Patience Ending Explained

From what we know after watching the movie, Mario breaks Beatriz’s heart after plagiarizing one of Pablo Neruda’s poems, in an attempt to impress her. However, the move backfires completely for the young lad, as the love of his life leaves the coast of Isla Negra and takes up some work at her aunt’s place.

The wanna-be poet decides to amend the relationship by actually learning to write original poetry, and sends letters to Beatriz. He also makes use of Pablo’s sea-facing table, to sit and contemplate the ideas.

During this process, he is successful in reconnecting with the love of her life, after several back-and-forth conversations. Although, at one point, it almost feels like Beatriz has forgotten Mario and found someone else, who practically hates poetry.

Furthermore, when Pablo returns from the election race, he finds Mario heartbroken and makes all the effort from his side to reunite the two lovers. He visits Mario at his home and tells him that Beatriz will be back in Isla Negra, for his special reception.

During the reception party, everyone decides to contribute to the distraction, to provide some intimate time to the lovers. Mario’s father breaks the glass of wine and forces Beatriz to arrive inside the cafe. Moreover, as a team, they are successful in the job, but they still need the blessings of the reluctant mother, who still finds all the poets fraudulent.

In the end, both Mario and Beatriz confront the opposing mother and reveal their true feelings in front of her. They even make sure to tell their strong plans of getting married and dismiss all such ideas of temporary love. Eventually, this melts the strongly biased mother and clears the path forward for the young couple.

During the last few scenes, we get to see montages of Mario getting married to Beatriz, and Pablo Neruda busy in his own thought process by the ocean. The love story finally ends on a happy note and completes the metaphor of love.
