Welcome to Chippendales Episode 3: Velvetta

It is inevitable to have an Indian protagonist and not really visit India, right? Well, the intuition in everyone’s stomach that we’d get to see Somen/Steve going back to his roots comes true in Welcome to Chippendales Episode 3. The episode opens with a shot telling us that Somen is in India visiting his father’s funeral and that is married to Irene, who is back at home taking care of his club along with Nick.

Meanwhile, at Chippendales, we have Nick stressing about the show and also witness Irene trying cocaine with Denise for the first time. The club seems to be functioning well in Somen’s absence but, when the boss returns with the weight of his visit to India, things take a different turn. On seeing a new handyman, Ray Colon, being employed full-time and, getting to know what has been happening with Irene in his absence, he is disgusted. Denise and Nick’s presence and authority over Chippendales do not help the situation and leave a bittersweet note in everyone’s throats.

Welcome to Chippendales Episode 3 strategically lays down everything that will build up what will go eventually wrong with Chippendales. The strained relationship between Somen and Nick, Irene’s independence over Somen’s likes and the new character, Ray, possibly play a catalyst in creating divisions. The egocentric nature of each character is very boldly highlighted in the episode which gives us food for thought about how the need for power might just take over the need for achievement that will lead to the downfall of something historic and special.

Welcome to Chippendales Episode 3 Ending Explained

During the ending of Welcome to Chippendales Episode 3, Somen seems to have found the perfect way to get revenge for The Hunkenstein that he was not consulted on. After he finds an ally in Ray, who also happens to be into photography (coincidentally?), Somen decides to take the entire Chippendales’ crew to his place to shoot for the Chippendales calendar, except for Nick and Denise, of course.

On learning that the entire crew is at Somen’s place when Nick and Denise find the club empty, they visit Somen. Nick and Somen get into an argument when the former suggests that he should have been consulted before the shoot and the latter goes on to flaunt that merchandising is his domain. This enrages Nick more than we would have assumed and, he leaves Somen and goes to New York.

Welcome to Chippendales Episode 3: Final Thoughts

Welcome to Chippendales Episode 3 started soft, with some sentimental moments and some fun but, it progressed to be an acting masterclass in the last moments with Kumail Nanjiani and Murray Bartlett face to face. The heat, the tension and the anticipation was really upped by the actors who delivered some solid performances as they stood against each other, showing the audience the hunger for fame and recognition one can never get rid of.

The introduction of Ray Colon has also elevated the show’s progress. The new character can be a potential Frank to Somen’s Annalise (How to Get Away With Murder).
