The White Lotus Season 2 Episode 2 Review/Recap: Italian Dream

The White Lotus Season 2 Episode 2, called ‘Italian Dream’, is now out. Written and directed by Mike White, the new season stars F Murray Abraham as Bert Di Grasso, Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya McQuoid (from season 1), Jon Gries as Greg Hunt and Tanya’s husband (from season 1), Adam DiMarco as Albie Di Grasso, Theo James as Cameron Babcock, Meghann Fahy as Daphne Babcock, Sabrina Impacciatore as Valentina, Michael Imperioli as Dominic Di Grasso, Aubrey Plaza as Harper Spiller, Will Sharpe as Ethan Spiller, Haley Lu Richardson as Portia, Beatrice Granno as Mia, Simona Tabasco as Lucia, and others.

The synopsis reads, “Tanya enlists Greg to help her live out her perfect Sicilian day. Harper questions Cameron and Daphne’s claims about their marriage.”

The White Lotus Season 2 Episode 2 Recap/Review Contains Spoilers

It’s the first morning for the guests at The White Lotus hotel. The day begins with Ethan going for an early morning run which seems like Harper isn’t a big fan of. Everyone except him is out to have their first breakfast. Portia shares the table with the DiGrasso family. Bert is upset that Dominic’s wife, Abby, isn’t joining them in Sicily to find their family’s roots. They ask Portia to accompany them to the Greek theatre.

Harper shares the table with Cameron and Daphne. When Cameron is on the phone, abusing the airport authorities for losing his bag, Harper asks his wife if he ever takes out his anger on her. Daphne tells her they never fight. After his phone call, Cameron and Daphne start kissing, which makes Harper uncomfortable. She excuses herself to go to her room.

In their room, Ethan is watching an adult film and pleasuring himself. Harper walks into the room while her husband is masturbating. She isn’t happy to see what Ethan is doing. Ethan says he gets a boner after a morning run, and she doesn’t like morning sex.

Harper tells Ethan how his friend Cameron and his wife Daphne never fight. She says, ‘if you never fight, your relationship is not real’. Ethan tells his wife, Harper she feels threatened by them. The duo get into an argument. Cameron and Daphne go out for some clothes shopping.

At another table, Tanya is with her husband, Greg. Greg still doesn’t seem happy to be there. Tanya tells him about her big Italian dream of being Monica Vitti. Lucia tells Mia about her night with Dominic. Dominic returns to the hotel and tells the manager they should let Mia and Lucia enter the hotel whenever they want. He adds their names to his and his father’s room. The manager doesn’t seem to be pleased with it.

Mia and Lucia enjoy the lavish hotel life as Dominic will pay the bills now. Mia talks to the singer, who thinks she’s a sex worker. She tells him she’s an aspiring singer and sings a song to show him his talent.

Harper-Ethan and Daphne-Cameron have lunch, and the latter couple talks about their trip to Venice. When asked where they went for their honeymoon, Harper says Porto Rico. At the hotel, the manager is not pleased when one of her employees gives Tanya and Greg the Vespa. After clicking some pics, the duo rode on the Vespa.

At the theatre, Bert accidentally calls Portia ‘Cara’. We learn that Cara is his granddaughter’s name, who hasn’t joined the trip alone because of Abby. Dominic and Albie get into an argument.

Harper and Cameron go for a swim in the sea. Cameron apologises for his behaviour and says he wants her to like him and his wife. Harper lies that she likes them. At dinner, Daphne asks Ethan and Harper if they want to have kids. Harper says considering how the world is right now, she doesn’t plan to. But Ethan says that they are trying to get pregnant.

Ethan shares how he is a morning sex guy and his wife isn’t. He gets tired by night, so they don’t get time. Cameron and Daphne talk about her painful pregnancy. The DiGrasso elder men talk about their respective affairs. Portia and Albie dine together and get to know each other better.

It was a perfect day for Tanya as her husband Greg did everything she wanted to. Greg gives her sad news that he will fly to Denver the next day due to work problems. Tanya is not happy to hear the news. The couple gets into a fight. Harper and Ethan sort out their differences. Cameron tells his wife, Daphne, that Harper sucks. Dominic spends the night with Mia and Lucia.

The White Lotus Season 2 Episode 2 Review: Final Thoughts

The masks are now slowly coming out, with people revealing their real faces. We learn that Harper’s boring marriage is the reason she’s so judgemental towards Cameron and Daphne. Bert DiGrasso is aware of his son Dominic’s affairs and shenanigans at night. Portia ends up revealing a lot to Abbie about Tanya and her husband, Greg. Things have started to heat up slowly, and it has built a curiosity to see how the relationships change in the coming episodes.

The episode is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
