Spy x Family Episode 14 Review: An Artistic Day

The 5th episode is here, and we are nothing but glad to meet the Forgers again. Now, without further ado, let us jump right into the review and see this episode went.

Spy x Family Episode 14 Overview

After the successful first season, it was only natural that we would get a second season for the Forger family. The anime is back with stunning animation, clearly influenced by the triumph of season 1 and a fast-paced storyline that will never cease to amaze the audience.

Furuhashi Kazuhiro directs the anime, and on the other hand, Wit Studio, CloverWorks is in charge of its animation. “SOUVENIR” by BUMP OF CHICKEN is the opening theme, whereas “Shikisai (色彩)” by yama is the ending theme.

Spy x Family Episode 14 Review: An Artistic Brilliance

Spy x Family Episode 14 is here, and right off the bat, the episode looks gorgeous with great animation and cool colour tones. This episode again was divided into two parts, and thus we will be reviewing it separately.

The first half opens with Anya still devising a plan to show off her dog to Damian so that she can get entry to his house. Becky, as usual, accompanies her and listens to her while sharing her own love for romantic dramas.

But when Becky sees a family photo of Anya that she got to show off her dog to Damian, Becky falls hopelessly in love with Loid. Hilariously, she even asks Anya if he is seeing someone, to which Anya explains how her Papa was actually married to her Mama. And well, this seems to start a new ridiculous angle where Becky gets added to the list of Loid’s admirers.

But it is not just any day, it is the special art and craft day that Damian must take very seriously to impress his neglectful father. And Anya readily agrees to help him due to her own ulterior motives.

This section of the episode also showcased how Anya does not really have a penchant for anything artistic, but again due to her extreme luck, she manages to succeed in her mission with flying colours. I totally enjoyed this part and loved the fact that we got to see Damian in a new light. This episode was funny as well as entertaining.

Then begins the second half of the anime, and we get a bit more insight into the Fullmetal lady. We get to know everything from how she conducts her day to how she manages to be one of the best spies in her agency.

Loid also makes an entry here and gives his reports to Sylvia as usual. This part reveals the dynamic between Twilight and the Fullmetal Lady, and we, as an audience, realise how even the formidable Twilight cannot dare to stain the dignity of Silvia.

This episode again gives us a snippet of the daily life of the Forgers and how they conduct things. We did not get an extremely engrossing episode which would further the plot, but it still manages to put a smile on your face.

Verdict

All in all, I liked the episode and its lightheartedness. The part where Damian accepted that his father most likely doesn’t care for him was sad and disheartening, but other than that, the mood was light throughout episode 5. The pace has never been an issue for Spy X Family, so I cannot complain there, but in comparison to other episodes, this one was a bit slacking on that engaging part. Watch Spy X Family  on Netflix.
