Vatican Girl The Disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi Trailer: Unveiling the Twisted Mystery

Vatican Girl The Disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi Trailer has been released by Netflix, which will investigate the mysterious case of a missing girl in the 1980s. Between falsified evidence and alleged tracks, the director Mark Lewis (former author of “Don’t F**k with Cats”) analyzes what we know so far in this new Netflix original docuseries.

The official synopsis of the series reads, “Rome, 1983. After leaving a music lesson, 15-year-old Emanuela Orlandi vanishes — embroiling the Vatican in a decades-long mystery.” The disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi has been the most mysterious case that occurred inside the Vatican walls since 1983.

The trailer starts off with the voiceover of her brother saying that Emanuela has been missing for the last 37 years. While we hear another voice saying, she was not an ordinary child, she was a Vatican girl. This mystery links terrorism and gangs to the cult, but so far no conclusive evidence has been found against anyone in particular.

Emanuela was the fourth of five children of Ercole and Maria Orlandi and took flute lessons three times per week at a music school. On Wednesday 22 June 1983, she went to her class, albeit a bit late and called home in the evening, speaking to one of her sisters. Since then, there has been no trace of the teenager, and Italian investigators have been unable to reach a conclusion about what happened to her.

The sister recalls that Emanuela talked about getting a job offer from an Avon company rep and was last allegedly seen getting into a large, dark-coloured BMW. After the news broke out in the media, the family received a call that she was supposedly the prisoner of a terrorist group demanding the release of Mehmet Ali Ağca, the Turkish man who shot the Pope in May 1981.

Over the years, a number of theories have made rounds around the media, linking the crime to organised groups or Vatican police and whatnot. The trailer reveals the line that – Silence is the most painful thing a family can suffer, which sits true in this case, where the family members are still waiting for the truth about their beloved sister and daughter to come out.
