House of the Dragon Episode 8 Preview: Future of Driftmark in Danger

House of the Dragon Episode 8 Preview starts off with the Hand of the King, Ser Otto Hightower, sitting on the Iron throne and saying, “As Hand, I speak with the King’s voice on this and all other matters.” The first visual itself gives the viewers a surprise and makes them curious as to what happened to the King and what Otto is up to.

HoTD episode 7 was titled ‘Driftmark’ with a runtime of about 1 hour long. It is directed by Miguel Sapochnik, and the teleplay is written by Kevin Lau. In this episode, we saw King Viserys and his entire court travel to Driftmark for Lady Leana’s funeral. Also, Rhaenyra tells her uncle Daemon that she has tried to fulfil her duty to Leanor, but to no avail, leading her to bond with Ser Harwin Strong. They both then have an intimate moment on the beach.

The main highlight was Aemond stealing Laena’s dragon Vhagar and then getting his eye gouged out by Lucerys after he calls Jacaerys a bastard. A great deal of tension is formed between Queen Alicent and Princess Rhaenyra after the event, where Alicent demands that Lucerys have an eye gouged out as well. Queen Alicent gets out of control and tries to stab the boy, and cuts Rhaenyra’s hand when being stopped by her.

Also, the ending made the viewers sad and happy in a matter of minutes with Rhaenyra and Daemon plotting Laenor’s assassination by his own lover Ser Qarl. But in actual Ser Laenor flees Driftmark with his lover Ser Qarl Correy, while Princess Rhaenys and Lord Corlys find the burnt body of an unknown man in the fireplace, presuming it to be Ser Laenor’s.

The preview foreshadows that Rhaenyra and Daemon are planning to return to the King’s landing after Ser Otto’s move to rule on the ill King’s behalf. It looks like they have planned a good blow for the Hightowers. The Sea Snake has taken a grave wound in battle in the Stepstones.

The question of who will take the Driftwood throne arises since there’s almost no lineage left. The show will be taking another leap as we see the young children are grown up and might be playing a much bigger role in the matters of court and throne.
