House of the Dragon Episode 5 Preview: Royal Wedding, War and Tragedy

House of the Dragon Episode 5 Preview has been released soon after the premiere of Episode 4 which is titled ‘King of the Narrow Sea’. With a runtime of about 1 hour and 3 minutes, the episode follows after Rhaenyra cuts short her tour of Westeros to find a perfect suitor to wed, Daemon introduces the princess to the Street of Silk after dark, which puts her virtue on the line.

Rhaenyra returns to King’s Landing just as Prince Daemon arrives from the Stepstones on his dragon. Daemon says he was named, ‘King of the Narrow Sea’, but swears allegiance to King Viserys and hands over the crown. Although he seems like a changed man, many still question his ulterior motives.

Which are revealed when late at night, Rhaenyra, disguised as a boy, sneaks out of the Red Keep with Daemon. They explore King’s Landing, drink, attend a play, and visit a brothel. Daemon seduces Rhaenyra but when he sees her surprised yet equally excited, he walks away from her. It shows how the loss of control affects Daemon.

Meanwhile, Rhaenyra seduces Ser Criston Cole upon returning to the Keep. Ser Otto’s spy informs him about Daemon and Rhaenyra coming out of a pleasure den. While Ser Otto thinks of it as a good opportunity to take the heir status from the princess to his grandson Aegon but it firebacks at him, with him losing his title as the Hand of the King.

To avoid a scandal, Viserys orders Rhaenyra to marry Ser Laenor Velaryon. And in the preview for the next episode, we see that preparations for a royal wedding have started as the King heralds the second age of dragons. However, Rhaenys Velaryon is worried and warns Lord Corlys that Rhaenyra’s succession will be challenged.

Coming from the experience of ‘The Queen Who Never Was’, we are shown visuals of people trying to kill each other and an alarming comment from Ser Otto, telling Alicent to prepare Aegon to rule because the King will die and Rhaenyra’s succession will only bring war.
