Overlord Season 4 Episode 10 Review- Pain and Suffering

After being extremely negative towards this show in the past few reviews, I suppose it is now time to give it its flowers and discuss something positive that happened in the latest episode. However, to do that, we must add a caveat- just because something good happened in this episode, it doesn’t reflect onto the episode as a whole, which I found to be quite slow and weirdly paced again. However, we are here to talk about the positives for once, so let’s get right ahead and do that.

The characters of the Kingdom’s royalty, Zanac and his sister, were introduced in this series quite a while back now and exceeded expectations every time they were on screen. The princess was astonishingly cunning and had a darker side to her that only her brother seemed to realise. Her brother, Zanac, despite looking like your average NEET, had quite the head on his shoulders and was quite skilled in running a country, which was a refreshing take on a royal in a fantasy show. For once, the royals weren’t all selfish dummies who cared about nobody but themselves.

They were somewhat unused for a while before Ainz started his newest campaign, which directly took the Kingdom in its crosshairs and aimed to raze it to the ground. It was cruel, it was unnecessary, and it wasn’t something that anyone would expect from Ainz, who has been portrayed as quite kind up until now. Thus, the past few episodes seemed a little off when we didn’t know what Ainz’s intentions were in killing so many people and breaking the promise made to his own subordinates. We now know more than we did, although if they make sense is up to personal interpretation.

This episode featured a great conversation between Zanac and Ainz, which said a lot about both of their characters. It is impossible to come out of watching this conversation without having gained respect for at least one, if not both, of them. What happened after that was the most shocking and effective thing the show has done in quite a while and managed to end this episode with a positive impression, something the show had been struggling with for quite a while now.

Now that we are done with positivity, let’s discuss some of the details that were not so good about this episode. For one, the entire plotline with the adamantite adventurers meeting up and going about teaming up feels pointless, as their defeat is practically written in stone at the hands of Ainz and his army. What is the point of learning about these new characters if they are all going to be dead soon anyway? There was also quite a lot of info dumping in this episode, which ruined the pacing of the episode. Still, at least it was more good than bad this time.
Verdict
Overlord Season 4 Episode 10 was a huge improvement for a show that desperately needed it. Things aren’t back to normal just yet, but we are getting there, and at this pace, the ending might just be a great one.

I happen to find the show great, but to the opinion of me on 10 it only got better. i find Ainz’s cruelty(spoilers) in the near end understandable
