Uncle From Another World Episode 7 Review: Sega Is Love, Sega Is Life

They say love makes the world go around, but that’s not the case in this show. Uncle From Another World Episode 7 shows that Sega makes the world go around in this show. Let’s see how it went about doing that in this review!

We haven’t talked about this before, even though it has been relevant a few more times before this, but the Netflix release schedule is doing this show no favours. Episodes take 1-2 weeks of breaks before being released due to as of yet unexplained reasons, confusing many fans who eagerly await the series to release a new episode every week. Netflix has been known to mess up the releases of several other shows in the past as well, most recently the latest season of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, and this show looks to be a victim of the same kind of nonsense.

The latest episode of this show was many things, but repetitive and derivative aren’t among them, which is a great thing. There were some previous complaints in this review series about a few episodes being similar to each other, but such complaints can’t apply to this episode. It featured an entirely new set of characters being introduced in both Takafumi and his Uncle’s lives, which injected this with quite a lot of freshness. This was a great outing for the series and one that showcased the different types of storytelling possible in this world.

Uncle finally acquired a party of sorts, which was something that was conspicuously missing in a show that featured a fantasy isekai. Not only that, but his party was full of decent people who were reasonably nice to him, even if they still thought him to be quite ugly. In true Uncle fashion, he managed to make things harder for himself than they needed to be again, but this time, at least his actions made more sense than they did in the previous episodes.

His love for Sega keeps coming to the forefront of each episode as a major plot point, as this one saw him use the battle tactics from one of the games in real life (Isekai, but who cares at this point). It is unclear if that helped in any way, but it sure was funny. Sonic the hedgehog also had a role here, although not in a way you would imagine. These references don’t mean much to people who fell off the Sega bandwagon a while ago, which counts double for people young enough to miss the era entirely (that includes me). However, these are usually charming and inoffensive enough to improve an episode.

Takafumi goes through quite a bit of development in this episode, which is both a good and a bad thing. It is nice that a low-key character is seeing some love. However, the show’s definition of development is making him more jealous and Uncle-like than ever. Out of all the people to emulate in this world, a guy who was in a coma for 17 years and got beaten up every day for not having any social awareness isn’t the best mentor to have, no matter if that person is your uncle.

Verdict

Uncle From Another World Episode 7 was a refreshing and entertaining episode that managed to switch up the formula of the series quite well. More episodes like this one, please and thank you!
